1. He was nicknamed "White Boy".

Bob’s father was a 50-year-old white British naval captain named Norval Sinclair Marley. Bob’s mom was a black country village girl named Cedella.

Bob Marley was born on February 6, 1945, in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica.

Because of his mixed racial makeup, Bob was bullied and derogatorily nicknamed “White Boy” by his neighbors. However, he later said the experience helped him develop this philosophy: I’m not on the white man’s side, or the black man’s side. I’m on God’s side.”

2. He was a palm reader when he was young.

As a little kid, Bob had a knack for deeply spooking people by successfully predicting their futures by reading their palms.

3. His band, The Wailers, was originally named The Teenagers. Bob and the band were once fired from a tour because they were more popular than the act they opened for.

5. Marley and his wife Rita:

Bob, who at twenty-one married a beautiful Trenchtown Sunday school teacher named Rita and stayed married to her until his death. He adopted her daughter and they had four children together during their marriage. Marley also had at least eight more children with eight different women.

Although Rita was heartbroken by her husband's actions, she still supported him till the last breath.

6. Bob Marley and Marijuana.

In short, Bob Marley smoked marijuana because he practiced the Rastafarian religion, wherein the use of "ganja" (the Rastafarian term for marijuana, taken from an old Sanskrit word) is a holy sacrament.

Bob Marley did not use cannabis recreationally, and did not see its use as a casual matter. He viewed marijuana as a holy rite, much as Catholics view Holy Communion or some Native Americans view ceremonial usage of peyote.

He was a professional level soccer player.

A 1977 football injury led doctors to discover a malignant melanoma in Marley’s toe. They recommended amputation, but he refused for religious reasons. The tumour then spread, which ultimately caused his death.
