There were countless times when I used to rush through my workdays feeling edgy and overwhelmed with everything that I needed to accomplish. I would progress rapidly through my to-do list prioritizing my tasks and then all of a sudden I’d come face to face with an on-going “energy drain” that sabotaged my productivity and derailed my focus.

These energy drains were tasks that I kept telling myself that I would deal with but I never seemed to find the time to actually complete them. Things like: cleaning out my client files, hiring a bookkeeper, organizing my keys so that I not only had an extra set but each key ring would actually have a set of car AND house keys (I can’t begin to count how many times I would grab the wrong key ring only to get out to my car and discover that I couldn’t start it!)… hiring an assistant, organizing the mail and bills so that it didn’t become a giant growing mass on the kitchen table – the list of energy drains went on and on.

I kept putting off dealing with these energy drains because I told myself I didn’t have time to deal with it.

Eventually I realized that by avoiding all this my energy was being zapped and pulled off center on a daily basis. I began to slowly tackle these time drains one by one – and as a result experienced a new sense of confidence and FREEDOM!

Here are 3 surprisingly simple secrets to identify and zap the energy and time drains in YOUR life...
1. Walking through a typical day¬, what are some of the things that bother or irritate you but you’ve told yourself that it would take too much time to deal with and so you keep putting it off? When you’re rushed or stressed, what are the things that you notice that bother you?

2. What is currently “incomplete” in your life that is draining your energy and that you know you need to complete (think in terms of unfinished projects as well as relationship issues that might be draining your energy)?
3. Put everything that you thought of in #1 and #2 and create an “Energy Drains Completion List.” Identify the top energy drain that you will begin to tackle in your life. Give yourself one week to complete this (yes, one week!). If it’s a huge project that you’ve been putting off for a long time make a commitment to take one step within the next 24 hours to begin to clear it up.

When you clean up the energy and time drains in your life you’ll feel more confident, you’ll get more accomplished during your business day and you’ll discover a burst of new-found energy that will support you in staying on track and focused.
