The Centuries of Nostradamus and Taoist Wisdom

--- 500th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF NOSTRADAMUS ---

THE CENTURIES THROUGH THE EYES OF TAOIST WISDOM

In his treatise "Dao De Jing" (Tao Te Ching), Lao Zi points out: when hear about Dao, some fill with joy and strive for attaining it; others in the beginning show interest, but then cool down and pass over indifferently; still others begin to laugh and their mouth fill up with mockery. According to the Chinese sage, in this there is nothing unnatural. Everything depends on the level of development of the particular individual and his abilities to penetrate into the meaning of a given phenomenon.

One grand phenomenon contains multitude of aspects. It could not be undestood all of a sudden. Little by little, however, through the many years' researcdh done by scientists of different epochs, pieces and bits are added and the picture of the big puzzle is filled.

Thus is with Nostradamus as well. Severral centuries his prophecies arouse wonderment, admiration, envy, negaation, understanding and misundeerstanding, rejection of old interpretations and proposing new ones. Because NOSTRADAMUS IS A PHENOOMENON.

Nevermind if we pass him over in silence or declare him as unsolvable, sometimes insufficiently accurate or incorrect in his predictions (from our point of view!), he and his predictions do exist and take a definite role in the human history and knowledge. 450 years since their publication, the quatrains of Nostradamus appeal for rationalizing the experience, accumulated by our civilization, they warn and provoke to seek the Truth for the Way of humanity.

Nostradamus is known as astrologer, physician, prophet, clairvoyant and holder of many other gifts. Yet, first of all he is a GREAT SCIENTIST, with a global knowledge about Universe, such as not many have been born on Earth. His Centuries show holistic mind, objective and unprejudiced attitude of the scientist toward the phenomena in society and Nature.

Speaking in contemporary language, Nostradamus applies holistic approach and integral methods in his research. He is very close not only to the holism of Hermes from ancient Egypt ("As above, so below"), but also to the holistic thinking of Lao Zi and the Taoist philosophy of the unity between Man-Earth-Heaven and the simultaneous flow of processes in all layers of this trinity, which is submited to one and the same law.

Everywhere in the Centuries it is projecting Nostradamus' integral study on the phenomena. Yet, our (still) lineal mind impedes us to perceive this Nostradamian approach. That is why many of the quatrains still appear to us mixed-up and we interprete them partially.

Let's take for example the famous quatrain for 1999:

[X-72]
L'an mil neuf cens nonante neuf sept mois,
Du ceil viendra un grand Roy d'effrayeur.
Resusciter le grand Roy d'Angolmois,
Auant apres Mars regner par bon-heur.

The Year 1999, seventh month,
From the sky will come a great King of Horror.
To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols,
Before and after Mars to reign by good luck.

All think that this prophecy is refered only to the Third Antichrist. Nostradamus, however, not accidentally puts a period after the second verse. Although in the ancient times and the Middle Ages the rules for punctuation have not been so strict like nowadays, the period here plays a significant role.

Nostradamus wants to delimit two phenomena, which are different in nature, but are related to one and the same epoch and as a whole are characterizing it.

Yin and Yang, the negative and positive, present simultaneously in Nature. In one period of time the Yin rules over the world, but the forces of Yang, which exist at the same time, in the next moment grow bigger and restore the Harmony. For every action, as it is known, there is a counteraction. If conditions are grouped together for the occurance of a disease, God, or Nature, at the same time creates healing plants, which can eliminate the disease. That is why in the next verse of this quatrain - on the "King of Angolmois" - already is not refered to the Antichrist, but to his antipode, the Man from the East, about whom Nostradamus (and many other prophecies) spare a special attention: this man will bring the knowledge from the East and will help restoring the Truth and the natural order in the minds of the people. "The King of Angolmois" not at all means a new Chingis Khan, but points that the holder of the positive knowledge in the New Millennium would be of the mongoloid, yellow race.

The last verse is related to Mars, which "before and after this reigns by good luck". Is it accidental this involvment of Mars in this quatrain? We, the contemporary people, are witness of one rare cosmic phenomenon - the coming of the planet Mars close to the Earth's orbit, which ocurrs once in 70 000 years. Like every formation, Mars possesses its certain type of energy (Mars is of the Fire element). Its coming near the Earth signifies an increase of its energy influence to the whole terrrrestrial nature: fires, heat, inflaming human passions and unleashing wars, which is characteristic for the lowert vibration of this energy, but also spiritual clearing and drive for cultivation and advancement.

This is how in one quatrain are described three big phenomena in society and Universe, which will manifest at one ath the same time. Thus we should not assess with our measures whether or not there is logic and obseervance of the historcal chronology. The logic of Nostradamus follows another "chronology" - that of the global development of humankind fropm one stage of still unconscious as a whole evolution (due to the insufficient understanding of the cosmic laws and cycles) toward the stage of conscious evolution, on the treshold of which, according to the Chinese researcher Wang Jianjun, we are.
