If you think that acne is bad enough during your younger years, you may also have to deal with acne scars as you get older. Picking pimples improperly can leave permanent marks and craters that you have to bear for the rest of your life.

There are a number of professional approaches that perform acne scar removal to help you get rid of the pitted look and restore your skin to full radiance. The treatment may depend on the type and severity of the scar and the patient’s response.

Dermabrasion is one acne scar removal procedure used to reduce and flatten the irregularities on the surface of the skin. The top layer of the skin is electrically abraded and removed. New skin cells will then grow during the healing process leaving a fresher and newer appearance.

Chemical peeling is another procedure that is ideal for superficial scars, skin damaged from the sun, and skin with irregular pigmentation. The top layer of the skin is chemically removed allowing new skin cells to grow and regenerate in order to give the surface a smoother and fresher look.

A punch graft is a more complex procedure wherein small skin grafts usually from the back of the earlobe are used to replace scarred skin. This is ideal for deep acne scars. A hole is punched in the skin for acne scar removal then replaced with the new unscarred skin.

Laser resurfacing is an acne scar removal method that involves the use of high-energy light to burn away scars and wrinkles.

Collagen injections involve injecting purified bovine collagen under the skin to treat scars, wrinkles and facial lines.

Duration for all these acne scar removal treatment will depend on the severity of the scars as well as the type of approach. Some may last for several minutes while others can be as long as a few hours.
