Attunement Through Meditation

Of all the gifts I've received from studying and applying the guidance in the Edgar Cayce readings, achieving attunement and at-onement with God through meditation is the greatest. I am healthier, happier, and more centered because I know how to set aside my earthly self and open my inner self to the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the guidance of the Universal Consciousness. And it is not just the experience that occurs during attunement that helps. When I'm regularly attuning myself, my dreams are clearer and more helpful, my daily attitude is better, and my intuition is better than radar. And, if patience is a dimension beyond time and space, as Cayce teaches, then I'm more often beyond this dimension and its limitations than when I'm not meditating.
As human beings, we have limited ability to get beyond the conditions in our lives. As the Master asked, "Who among us, by taking thought, can change one hair on their head or add an inch to their stature?" (Matt. 6:27) In the normal, human condition, the answer is "None of us." The normal, everyday, human condition is an individual, finite state of consciousness. But there is a universal, infinite condition. It is that state of consciousness that Cayce got into in order to give his famous readings. In reading 281-24 we have this: "So may an individual effect a healing, through meditation, through attuning not just a side of the mind nor a portion of the body but the whole, to that at-oneness with the spiritual forces within, the gift of the life-force within each body." The gift of the life-force within each body - what a wonderful statement! Within each of us is a latent gift waiting to be claimed and is claimed by "attuning" the whole of body and mind "to that at-oneness with the spiritual forces within."
Cayce explains this process further in reading 281-5: "The nearer the body of an individual ... draws to that attunement, or consciousness, as was in the Christ Consciousness ... the nearer does the body ... become a channel for life - living life - to others to whom the thought is directed. Hence at such periods, these are the manifestions of the life, or the spirit, acting through the body... Let these remain as sacred experiences, gathering more and more of same - but as such is given out, so does it come."
The last few words relate to one of the universal laws established by the Creator: As we give, as we do unto others, so does it come to us. The kids today understand this principle well and express it in their saying, "What goes around comes around."
An important tip in this reading is that many of our deep meditation experiences are the manifestions of the life or spirit acting through our bodies. Our bodies are atomic structures operating in accord with physical laws that are influenced by spiritual forces; 281-24 is a good reading on this: "... the body-physical is an atomic structure ... each atom, each corpuscle, has within same the whole form of the universe - within its own structure ... each individual body [must] bring a balance necessary for its continued activity about each of the atomic centers its own ... creative force. The law, then, is compliance with the universal spiritual influence that awakens any atomic center..."
It is a natural and divine law: If we remain in the individual, human condition, then we have limited influence over our life circumstances. If we attune ourselves wholly to the "universal spiritual influence," then human conditions are influenced by spiritual forces, and these forces are life and light, with power to make all things new. Our bodies are structured to allow for atomic centers to come into balance with the universal spiritual influence. It's natural. It's lawful. We simply need to budget the time and place to attune ourselves through meditation. The results, if wholly attuned, come naturally.
As with everything in the Cayce teachings, in the doing
Acomes the understanding, not in the talking, reading, believing, knowing, or thinking - but in the doing. As 1998 draws to a close, let's attune ourselves like the 10 wise virgins in Jesus' parable, who had oil in their lamps and flames in their hearts even at the late hour of the Bridegroom's coming. Let's hold to the peaceful power of practicing attunement and at-onement through meditation, allowing the spiritual influences to imbue our bodies and minds with their subtle yet potent forces.
