Smart living is in; and wellness seekers are on the move to reach higher levels of fitness -- that's why fitness careers are growing by leaps and bounds. In fact, occupations within the field of fitness are anticipated to grow much faster than other professions. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an employment increase of 27 percent is expected through the year 2016; so now is the perfect time for interested individuals to get a move on the appropriate career training.
Types of Fitness Careers
Today, fitness careers have evolved into a diverse range of occupational fields including fitness trainers, personal trainers, rehabilitation workers, exercise instructors, physical fitness teachers, and yoga or Pilates instructors, among other unique branches. While some individuals choose to pursue fitness careers in medical facilities, other personal trainers go onto directing health/fitness programs in health clubs, private health resorts, physical education centers, and in schools.
Personal training or physical fitness certification is critical for most fitness careers. While on-the-job training is always important to practical experience, fitness careers range in education and training. Though some fitness training programs may take up to four years to complete (including bachelor degree training), there are a number of fitness certification programs in yoga or Pilates that can be successfully completed in 200 training hours.
Earning for fitness careers are diverse, but top fitness professionals can earn beyond $57,000 annually. Some related occupations include coaches, physical therapists, occupational therapists, sports trainers, nutritionists, and dieticians.
