What’s the nicest thing that anyone has ever said to you?

Sometimes, we’re caught off-guard. People say things that make us laugh, smile or just feel happy. It’s a magic moment. You feel a rush of adrenalin surge through your veins, and a wonderful feeling comes over you. Life suddenly seems beautiful and sweet.

It’s fun to remember these “feel-good” moments. By thinking back, happy memories make an ordinary day seem extraordinary. Remembering magic moments can turn a frown upside down. We feel special, loved and appreciated.

When I think about the “nicest thing that anyone has ever said to me,” here are five things that I remember:

1. “Here comes my favorite student!” My college professor said this, when he saw me coming down the hall. His enthusiasm and quick wit always brought a smile to face.

2. “You like me!” I was having lunch with a friend, and looking over the menu. Under my breath, I muttered, “Hmm, what do I like?” My friend quickly responded, “I know what you like: Me! You like me!” His comeback made me laugh until my face turned red.

3. “You make me feel young again!” My grandfather said this, with tears in his eyes. I gave him a silly birthday card when he turned 70. Grandpa said that I brightened his day, and made him feel young again.

4. “You’re worth more to me than a million dollars!” This one-liner sounds corny, but to my ears it was pure gold. Before I was married, I dated a salesman. He was always prospecting, or talking to people about his business. One time, I noticed his prospect seemed jittery and uncomfortable. To lighten the mood, I jumped in and changed the subject. Later, my salesman-boyfriend was angry. “When you interrupted me, you cost me a sale!” Fortunately, his anger faded when I apologized. That’s when he said, “Aah, you’re worth more to me than a million dollars!” That was cute, coming from a guy who was flat broke.

5. “Will you marry me?” I’ll never forget the time my husband got down on his knees and proposed. Wow, it’s a good thing I didn’t stay with that salesman!

So, what’s the nicest thing that anyone has ever said to you? Take a moment to reflect and remember.

It doesn't matter if your memories are corny, silly or sappy. What matters is how these memories make you feel. If it makes you feel happy, it's probably worth remembering.
