Need a home remedy for nausea?

Oriental medicine says nausea is due to "reverse stomach Qi". Qi means something akin to energy, so the energy of the stomach is going in reverse... up instead of down!

Here's a couple quick and effective Oriental remedies to stop nausea, whether from traveling pregnancy, chemotherapy or pretty much any other cause. These don't have the side effects of nausea medications, and their effectiveness is backed up by plenty of research.

Don't underestimate their power because they seem so simple. There are hospitals that use these natural nausea remedies in lieu of drugs.

ACUPRESSURE TO THE WRIST

An easy home remedy for nausea that costs nothing is acupressure to a special point on your wrist. It's called "P 6" (because it's the 6th point on the Pericardium acupuncture channel).

It's located 3 finger widths above your wrist crease on the palm side, between the two tendons that stick out when you flex your wrist back and forth. You can stimulate it with a blunt object like the tip of your thumb, a chopstick, or, if you're in the office, the non-sharp side of a pen or pencil.

Use mild pressure for about 60 seconds. You might feel a slight ache, which is usually a good sign, but use common sense and don't damage yourself. Repeat it as often as necessary.

Here's a special bonus - use this at a gathering when someone has the hiccups... it works great, and you'll be the hit of the party!

GINGER TEA OR CAPSULES

This home remedy for nausea has been used in China, for more than 2,000 years and is an important herbal medicine there. It's strange that ginger's been relegated only to our spice racks, rather than our medicine cabinets (except in my home, of course!)

Using ginger is pretty simple. Either grate it into boiling water and make a tea out of it, or buy capsules at the grocery store or pharmacy and take a couple when you feel nauseous.

If you want to be more specific with your dosages...

...If you have nausea - take 2 to 4 grams of fresh root daily (0.25 to 1.0 g of powdered root).
...If you want to prevent nausea or vomiting...

Take 2 ginger capsules (1 gram) three times a day, or...

Take 1/2 tsp. every four hours, or...

Just chew on a small piece of ginger three or four times a day.

It's a good idea to keep both fresh ginger and ginger capsules on hand at home. Ginger's a powerful remedy for a lot of digestive problems. Try it a couple times, and you may just give ginger a place in your medicine cabinet as well as on your spice rack!
