There will probably come a time in the not too distant future where the condition of acne will be completely curable; however, many effective treatments are available. Research into the causes, and possible treatments, for the condition is ongoing; now, some of these skin conditions are gradually being conquered. Acne skin care products all fall into one of three main categories:
*Over-the-counter: Preventative
*Those available at a drugstore or over-the-counter
*Prescription: Issued for specialized medication from a doctor etc.
Probably the largest part of the skin care market is products designed to clean the skin and inhibit the formation of acne; these include cleansers, make-up removers and other similar products that can help prevent the condition. Whilst many sufferers use these products there are even more who just want to keep their skin clean and conditioned; in many instances the user has never had a skin condition to worry about. Other acne skin care products, like skin cleansers for instance, are more specific about their job; devised primarily to limit the amount of oil or sebum forming in the pores. These products prevent the oil from getting trapped in pores and can hamper the growth of bacteria, this can lead to the bad skin condition.
Other skin care treatments can help exfoliate the skin; these are easily obtainable in any drug store. These work towards removing dead skin cells, reducing the possibility of pore-clogging and bacteria development. There are specialized acne skin care products available over-the-counter, they do not require the need of a prescription. Most of these creams etc. are based on benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the enemies of bacteria (and hence acne); they work by removing the excess oil from the skin and halt the growth of acne.
Although benzoyl peroxide works well, reactions can happen so it is suggested that any skin care product containing this should not have more than 5.5 percent of the active ingredient; a safer alternative to benzoyl peroxide is anything containing alpha hydroxy acid. It is not always possible to find an acne skin care product that works first time; however, if nothing you try seems to work, you should contact a dermatologist. Only doctors or skin care specialists can prescribe some medications, including the use of antibiotics and certain ointments.
Under certain circumstances, having the infected material removed from the pores under a local anesthetic may be suggested by your dermatologist; specialists never recommend the sufferer tries this themselves as it can cause permanent skin damage. Another effective course of skin care treatment is hormone therapy; this type of skin care treatment has been very effective in many cases. Science has produced many effective treatments for this unkind condition.
