Clearing your clutter is essential in Feng Shui. It may not be something that was written about in the ancient texts of traditional Feng Shui but it is something that our society has to deal with today. Releasing clutter can help you clear life patterns which do not serve you any more. If you find that you are constantly coming across gifts from past Christmases, then consider being mindful of the gifts you give this year so that you are not contributing to the clutter in other people’s homes Remember every one of those little knick knacks has to be picked up, dusted, and then replaced often. So with less clutter not only will the energy be crisper and cleaner, your personal energy will also be more positive because you won’t feel overwhelmed at cleaning time. Here is a list of gift ideas that do not cause clutter in our homes. Included in the list are some consumable presents. So if you really want to have a gift that is material and can be wrapped you can chose items that will be consumed so that by next year they will be gone.

Restaurant Gift certificates
One of the things I love about restaurant gift certificate is it allows couples who may not go out much to spend some time alone. Family restaurant gift certificates are great for families with busy schedules who don’t get to spend that much time together.

Other family oriented gift certificate ideas include movie rentals, arcades, family fun centers, theme parks and national park passes.
Zoo and Museum memberships
These are great ways to spend quality and educational time together.. Zoos are a great way to teach children to appreciate wildlife and conservation. Watching a gorilla on TV does not have the same impact of respect or caring as seeing one in real life.
Museums teach children about history, their own culture as well as other cultures and most importantly they teach children about creativity and self expression. There is a reason why people line up for hours to see the Mona Lisa in person when they can easily just see it on there computer screen.

The Gift of Music
Concert or symphony tickets are great for the music lover. Find out when the artist(s) is in town and get two tickets for you and your mate or if the music isn’t your taste then let him or her take a buddy. Gift certificates from your entertainment stores are also usually very much appreciated. With so many people having I-pods, the I-tunes gift certificate is great if the receiver doesn’t use CDs and likes to download music.

Goody Baskets
These are even better if you are inclined to bake the yummies yourself. Its easy on the wallet because you can buy items in bulk. Pre made baskets are great too and are good to have around for unexpected guests.

Art Supplies
These are consumable too and in an age when you can even draw on a computer, few kids have tactile experiences with art media such as paint or clay. Of course there are always crayons too. Art supplies make great gifts because they allow kids to express themselves creatively. One warning though, some parents don’t like messy gifts. I know some of my friends want to call me up to come clean up their kids mess! It doesn’t stop me.

International Flavors
Sampler packages of flavors that someone wouldn’t buy for themselves. Most of us buy one type of coffee, so it’s great to have a supply of coffees from around the world. These are consumable gifts of coffees, beers, chocolate etc. You’re giving the receiver a chance to sample a variety of items of something they already like.

Stationary
Stationary can be considered a consumable gift if the receiver is apt to use it. Some people are not writers. Most of us use email for all our personal letters so consider that if the person is likely to write you a physical letter, than they can probably use stationary. Think about using earth friendly materials, recycled paper and stationary that represents natural elements such as earth, metal, water, wood or fire.

Calendars
Choose from calendars that emphasize nature like beautiful landscapes or flowing rivers. When the images change month to month according to the season, it represents the yin and yang nature of chi. In other words 12 winter time images do not have the same harmonious flow that 12 images that show changing seasons allow. Calendars are great because there handy and practical but they also are consumable and can be thrown out at the end of the year.

I didn’t include contributions gifts on my list because I think this is not a real people pleaser. Everyone has their own causes and special interest groups that they want to help so this type of gift is too personal for many (kind of like perfume). For example if someone doesn’t believe in animal testing, they would not want a gift in their name to go to an organization that supports it, although you may feel that charity is worthy. Better to avoid this altogether unless your really know what charities the receiver holds dear to their heart.
I hope you have a stress free and clutter free Holiday.
