Anxiety control may seem as though it is difficult to master; however, the key to controlling anxiety is to learn how to think positive, change negative behavior patterns and learn healthy ways to relax. There are many different ways in which you can effectively relax. If you are like most people who suffer from anxiety, you probably find it difficult to relax on your own. In this case, you may need to practice specific techniques that are meant to help you relax.

Journaling is an excellent way to not only relax but help to discover the root of your anxiety as well. If you have not previously practiced journaling it is quite easy to do. You do not need to spend a lot of time; a few minutes each day is enough.

If you like you can certainly purchase a special journal in which to record your thoughts; however even a simple notebook or even a word processing program on your computer will suffice just fine. Keep in mind that you do not need to write a lengthy record; you only need to jot down your thoughts on what happened during the day. The important thing is to note those things that happened during the day that made you happy as well as sad or anxious.

At the end of every week take some time review what you wrote during the week. This will help to provide you with an idea of those things which help you to feel positive and those things which make you feel anxious. As you begin to see patterns appearing, take steps to avoid those things which put you in a negative mood and make you feel anxious or stressed. Start spending more time doing those things that make you feel positive.

Hobbies are also a great way to relax. If you already have a hobby, make a concentrated effort to start spending more time on your hobby. Hobbies are not only good for anxiety control because they help you to feel happy and as a result less stressed but also because they tend to distract you from negative thoughts and activities.

If you do not already have a hobby, begin investigating possible hobbies that might be pleasurable for you. Gardening is a particular favorite of many people. Remember that even if you do not have a large plot of land for gardening this does not need to prevent you from enjoying the hobby. Even people who live in apartments and town homes enjoy container gardening. Listening to relaxing music, painting and taking long walks are also great ways to relax and take your mind off those things that might make you feel anxious.

Anxiety control requires time and dedication as well as introspection; however, by learning techniques that will help you to relax you can begin to take the essential steps toward ending your anxiety and getting your life back.
