Nature has so much to offer and some of the greatest gifts from nature are herbs. Herbs awaken our senses
giving us beauty, flavor, aromas, food and medicine. Herbalism is the study of herbs and is based on the relationship between plants, humans and our planet. The study of and use of herbs is a vital component of holistic health. Holistic health is an amazing revelation as to how our wellness may be created, improved and/or maintained by using natural practices and ingredients. Holistic health is an encompassing approach to wellness with healing benefits from many different sources. One of which is the use of herbs for both food and medicine. For the rest of this article we will briefly share the use of herbs as medicine. The medicinal use of herbs creates a supportive environment for healing to take place. Just imagine the idea of improving your heath and well-being through plants that nature has given us. It’s a pretty exciting concept - an environment for healing through the use of plants provided to us by nature.

Herbs are wonderful healing gifts grown right here on earth. Herbs have been with us since the beginning of time. The medicinal use of herbs to treat illness has been known for thousands of years. If you were to take a journey through history you would find the use of herbs within many different cultures including the Egyptians, the Romans, the Chinese and the North American Indians. In fact, traditional medicine has it’s roots in the use of herbs as medicine. Herbal properties are being researched and reviewed in the most highly scientific approach of modern pharmacy and allopathic (traditional) medicine.

Herbs are a basic natural source to balance the body and create wellness. Herbs do not produce an instant cure. Herbs assist to put the body in tune with nature, on the appropriate path to wellness and in balance as God intended the body to be.

Herbs are concentrated foods with the ability to remedy both symptoms and cause of a problem. Herbs are nutrients that nourish the body's most basic and deepest elements. Herbs are not drugs and do not bring about the same activity as chemically based medicines. Herbs are neither habit forming nor are herbs addictive.

Basically herbs are as safe to consume as food and have no side effects. However, there are some exceptions and the key to avoiding any kind of adverse reaction is to consult with a healthcare practitioner knowledgeable in herbal remedies.

Herbs are not utilized the same way that vitamins are utilized within our bodies. Therefore, herbs are not like vitamins and should not be taken as a daily supplement. The results and the benefits that you receive from herbs as medicine will be greatly enhanced when combined with a natural food diet. Healing takes much longer when the body is not in proper balance. When you consider that natural healing requires personal responsibility and personal attention, the extra time that you spend nurturing is worth far more in the results you will achieve.

Consider that each one of us is unique and each one of us has the ability to create our own well-being. Herbs will allow our bodies to do this through the process of removing toxins, cleansing, toning, lubricating, and nourishing.

The five main benefits of herbs:

Cleansing
Normalizing body function
Extremely nutritional
Raise the energy level
Stimulate immune system

Herbs are a wonderful food source for nutrients, however as medicines they work best when taken for a specific problem. The body knows how to heal itself if given the time and the proper environement.
