During my years as a careers adviser I've helped hundreds of people you were being made redundant, or should I say their jobs were being made redundant, not them as individuals.
If you are in the same position and have just been given the bad news that you are losing your job due to downsizing, outsourcing, the credit crunch or whatever, then don't despair, as this could be the golden opportunity you need to change direction and finally achieve the success you have only dreamed about for years.
After the initial shock of receiving the bad news, I always advice those facing redundancy to take a long hard look at themselves, their hopes and desires. I encourage them to think back to when they were a child, what did they want to do with their life? What ambitions did they have for themselves? Do they still have a burning desire to be somebody or achieve something, even though they have completely ignored those feelings for years?
You see, many of them have just gone through the motions over the years, going into their boring job day by day, with little thought of ever moving forward or feeling fulfilled. They have lost track of their desires and ignored the little voice inside their head urging them to do better and achieve success. This is understandable, as they have had families to feed, mortgages to pay, and other responsibilities to think about.
But, if you are one of those individuals who are now facing the prospect of losing your job, then you must not despair and see it all as bad news. You are now being presented with a perfect opportunity to finally take action and change your life. Remember all those dreams and ambitions you had as a child? Well, now is the very time to finally believe and achieve what your heart desires.
