Your life is very much like pieces of a puzzle. These pieces fit together to form the complete picture of who you are - what your current situation in life is, how you spend your time (whether work or play), your level of joy and happiness, health and more!
When you are in a state of equilibrium or BALANCE, you will find that all aspects of your life are in synch and in harmony. For example, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism and many others teach the value of a balanced life. For those who are not familiar with these teachings, perhaps you may remember the timeless examples of the Yin -Yang symbol; Female and Male; Darkness and Light; Water and Fire; Heaven and Earth.
No matter which example you best relate to, there is immeasurable value in living a balanced life. In today’s world, the daily demands of work, family, personal dreams and desires can steer us in a direction that can have a negative impact on many areas of our life. We make decisions that affect us, those near and dear to us, our relationships with others, our careers and definitely our health and wellness.
So, what does your life look like? Do YOU have a balanced life? To achieve balance you must first assess and reflect on what is most important to you. In fact, ongoing self evaluation, done with a truly honest view of your self, is critical to a well balanced, harmonious life.
INTRODUCING THE WHEEL OF LIFE…
The “Wheel of Life” is a tool that can help you take an unbiased, honest look at your current situation and see if the life you are living is truly balanced - or disharmonious. When your life is truly in balance, nothing will feel out of sync and you will be in a state of equilibrium.
First, get a copy of the “Wheel of Life” from my Mind Body Spirit Central Newsletter, dated October 2006, at http://www.MindBodySpiritCentral.com in the “newsletter archives”. Go there now and download a copy of the diagram. You can also contact me by email and I will be happy to send a copy directly to you!
The Wheel of Life exercise covers ten key areas in your life. They are:
1) Home Environment
2) Health and Wellness
3) Social Life
4) Career
5) Creativity
6) Finances
7) Education
8) Spirituality
9) Relationships (personal and professional)
10) Joy and Happiness
Begin by placing a dot on each line, and rate how much time and energy you put into that area of your life. The center of the circle is equal to zero and the outer edge of the wheel equals 10. The closer the dot is to the edge of the circle the more time you dedicate to that area. In doing so, you will discover what areas take up a lot of time, effort and energy and those which could use more attention.
When you have finished, draw a line to connect the dots. Is your “Wheel of Life” round and would it turn smoothly? Or is it more of a square? Or is it flat and bumpy on some sides? Or it is completely asymmetrical?
Take time to reflect and think about how the ratings of certain areas affect your life and what you want out of life. Look at areas where you are happy and also those that need attention in order for you to make progress.
Develop a plan to smooth out the “flat” spots on your wheel. THE POWER OF THOUGHT Motivation and Success System is an excellent tool to help you find balance in your life. A life of balance will provide you with the “will to do”, which is the inner energy to live impeccably with a daily feeling of harmony, happiness and serenity.
