Is Intuition Really A Sixth Sense?

At first glance, you might think that intuition and sixth sense are exactly the same. After all, they both give you information, not always in a form which is easy to understand, but it is given nevertheless.
But they have different names, so presumably that means that they really are different. Mind you, I can see you're thinking this rule doesn't apply to everything, does it? My response is if something has two different words to describe it, you can bet your life that they share similarities, but they are not exactly the same. Mist and fog, shower and downpour, love and affection, spade and shovel (don't believe me on this one? Go look up the definitions!) and so on.
It's exactly the same with intuition and sixth sense. They share similarities but they are essentially different.
To start with, what do they share?
That's a little easier to describe. Both of these give you, in some fashion, a nudge, a hint, a feeling to do or not do something. It's rarely (if ever) in a form which is undeniably clear and concrete and quite often you have to find out the details for yourself.
Both rely upon you trusting the feelings, hints etc., enough to do something about them.
In other words, the similarity between these two terms is really only concerned with having a feeling that you would be better off if you followed a particular course of action. And that's about it.
There really are no other similarities; the feelings and the trusting of them together are what count here.
So where do they differ?
That one is slightly harder to explain clearly.
First, let's agree that your sixth sense is simply that, an extra sense which you have which warns you of things. It's a bit like the other five senses except that it doesn't have a specific organ. It does without eyes, ears, nose, taste buds and so on. It simply is there and you get a feeling. So calling it a sixth sense really is quite accurate in a way.
Intuition, on the other hand, seems to cover a lot more ground than the simple sixth sense does.
After all, you might get a sixth sense that something is wrong in a room, but your intuition might be able to furnish you with more detail, like bad wiring, a robber lurking in the shadows, a trip hazard and so on.
Intuition, then, fills in the gaps which the sixth sense can't access. After all, there are stories of people who use their intuition to get answers to questions, which is something that the sixth sense can't do. Can you ask you're sixth sense which horse will win the race? No. But you can ask your intuition and THEN your sixth sense picks up the partial answer and gives you the feeling that number three is the one to go for.
But I think it goes even deeper than that!
If your sixth sense acts a warning device to keep you out of trouble, then your intuition acts a way of putting things in front of you to help your life.
For example, we have all had chance meetings which resulted in a big change in your life. Some people put them down to coincidence. Some say it's just chance (which, I have to admit is a really weak thing to say). Others will say that such happenings were 'meant to be' or were 'destined to happen'.
What I say is that those meetings are a direct result of your intuition working away behind the scenes and bringing about the event which will improve your life, alter it in a way you like (even if you realize that later on).
You probably know someone who wants to change something in their life. A job maybe, or a relationship. As an outsider, you can see opportunities coming at them, but they only see obstacles and barriers.
Each time you see an opportunity for them, it's their intuition giving them a chance to change. In some cases, people are too frightened of change, in others, they say they want to change but they don't really. Others still just can't trust themselves enough to take the opportunity.
So the real difference between the two things; sixth sense and intuition, is that the first, the sixth sense, simply responds to something and gives you a feeling. But intuition is always at work and it tries to help you do what you want.
All you have to do is recognize it when it presents you with something good for you (and that's where your sixth sense comes in!).
