LOL and RSVP these are familiar terms that stand for something we don't take the time to spell out. We have taught ourselves to remember what they mean and the meaning is not lost .

I often use an alphabet letter to help me remember a list of things when I’m on the go. It’s for a simple short list ,a sort of an abbreviated short hand for when I can’t lay hold of pen & paper. For instance, I need to pay the credit card bill, mail out some packs of things and write a bulletin. So I repeat the letters I want to remind me of those chores.

In order to imbed the reminder in my brain, I say out loud “CC,M, WB” while seeing the items in my minds eye. Of course to the average passer by it means nothing ( I could put my cool rap voice on so I wouldn't look too weird- LOL) but hopefully I've done enough of my alphabet mantra practice in private so I no longer need to say it out loud in public.

My husband the musician claims he can't remember the three things I want him to bring home from the store on his way home from work .Those things being coffee creamer, toilet paper and bananas. So I try my hand at a simple melody (or my favorite rap) to help him remember instead of him merely putting me off in groaning manner.

So I sing my silly song “CC,TP and B” and again (sung to your favorite tune) “CC,TP and B”. See? Now you’re getting the hang of it! Pretty soon he is repeating me and he is having a fun time getting to know the abbreviated list.

Ah ...eat your heart out rain in Spain guy from “My Fair Lady!

Of course this method won’t work for all things you may need to remember. The real trick is never make it about more than three things that you're trying to remind yourself of. Feel free to insert your own percussion mouth sounds and air guitar.LOL!
