We all well know that mind and body are interdependent. Healthy mind lives in a healthy body. But the influence of mind over body is however is much greater than that of body over mind. Body reacts to the slightest impulse of mind. If the mind is disturbed the body will also be troubled. We can see the strong influence the mind has over body especially with regard to emotions. These can be either positive or negative.
Anger, hate, jealousy, fear are negative emotions. Frequent emotional upsets affect the whole nervous system and may result in illness. Repeated hammering on nervous system is harmful to endocrine gland and may lead to aging and premature death. During a fir of rage we may loose control over our nerves.
There are some positive emotions also such as hope and confidence. They promote the health of nervous system and make body healthy. Love, joy an happiness bring peace to mind and make us optimistic. All this shows that mind is strong enough to influence the body in every possible way. So how can we expect to build up good health, a strong nervous system and proper functioning of our Endocrine glands, if we allow our mind to wander in any direction it likes? So illness is nothing other than the expression of the unequal distribution of vital forces throughout the human body. We can recover by redressing our equilibrium with the help of only Yoga, Pranayam and Meditation
