Tomball, Tx, October 1, 2004 — Flying over New York City in September 2001, looking down on the smoke still billowing from the twin towers, seeing this horrible act of terrorism with my own eyes, solidified my reasons for starting my new business.

This business trip had been planned for over a month, and then a few days before departure, the whole world stood still. As the nation sat in shock, glued to their televisions and radios for updates, I struggled with the decision of making this trip or postponing for awhile. With all air traffic at a complete stop, I thought the decision was made for me. Then, air traffic resumed and I had to make a decision.

My story starts about a month prior to this event. I was visiting my Mother, who operates a very successful angel pin business. Mom had retired from her life-long career and had started making angel pins as a hobby and selling them at craft fairs. One thing led to another and she found herself very busy with a full-blown business. While visiting her, she asked if I would be interested in opening my own branch of the angel business. She had not planned for the business to be the success that it was and had intended to enjoy a relaxing retirement, dabbling with the angels.

During the course of her success, she had become very attached to her customers and very in tune with their needs. She asked me to open a branch of the business, to help her with the overflow, so that she could continue to provide the attention that her customers had come to expect. Her customer base had grown nationwide. Her angels were touching the lives of people all over the world, as international requests started coming in. Honored that she would trust me with her customers, I accepted her proposition and our first business trip was planned. Our mission was to make new contacts with suppliers. We made the trip during the most difficult travel time in our lifetime.

The angel business is not any ordinary business. It is a real ministry to people in need of comfort. At times, it can be a very emotional business as customers express their needs. For the most part, angels are designed in memory of loved ones. Capturing that loved ones personality in an angel pin is quite rewarding. It gives you a feeling of satisfaction knowing you are helping people through a very difficult time in their lives. My first account was with a family of a hero of the 9/11 tragedy.

Keith Fairben was a firefighter and an EMT. He was just doing his job when the twin towers came down. His family wanted to commemorate his life with an angel pin, a keepsake they will treasure forever. You can see the Keith Fairben Angel Pin at http://www.CarlasAngels.com/fire-fighter-angel.htm. This angel design is a base silhouette of a boy angel. A fireman’s helmet, firefighter badge and EMT insignia top off the design. I worked very closely with the family until we had the design just as they wanted it.Many of my customers report that the angel pins have provided a source of comfort and aid in the grieving and healing process.

Each one of my designs has a story. I publish part, or sometimes the entire story behind the design on my web-site. Each design has its own page with a picture of the design, a brief description of the design and the story behind the design. These pages are viewed as a tribute to the person the angel was designed for. Angel Pins also make a very unique and personal sympathy gift, as an alternative to flowers.

Not all of the angels are designed in memory of a loved one. Some are designed to honor accomplishments of family members and friends. We have graduation angels, first communion angels, new mothers angels, bride and groom angels, best friend angels and whatever occasion you can think of.

I started my angel business originally to help my mother with her overflow and a little extra pocket money. I worked a full-time job and came home at night to dabble with the angels. Over time, making angels became therapeutic for me. It fills a creative urge within me. When I started designing angels for others and then started getting the feedback on the angels, the business took on a whole new perspective for me. People were truly being helped by my angel designs. They were finding it easier to cope with their losses and beginning to see hope.

At that point, the angel business was no longer a business for me, but a gift. I still help Mom with the overflow, but I am also reaching out and touching hundreds of people. The satisfaction of knowing people are healing emotionally because of the angel pins is priceless. This is why I say the business took on a whole new perspective for me, it became a form of ministry, which I take very seriously.
