Internet Sites for Senior Citizens

Senior citizens throughout the United States are responding to the challenge of becoming more computer and Internet literate. Many of these senior citizens are discovering the Internet for the first time while others are veteran users. The Internet is a huge collection of information from various universities, governments, businesses, libraries, museums, private individuals, etc. All of these sites are linked together by an international network of computers that speak the same language (HTML).

The phenomenal growth of the Internet, along with its easy-to-use features has offered almost anyone access to thousands of educational and recreational activities. Many elderly individuals enjoy spending time searching through genealogy, sports, financial or other types of sites. When you connect to the Internet, your computer becomes part of this international network of computers. It is estimated that there are over 150 million Internet users throughout the world.

If introduced in the right way, the Internet can become a useful research tool or hobby for the elderly. The mental decline which is often a part of the natural aging process can be slowed (and sometimes reversed) by getting the elderly involved as active users of technology. The Internet offers a huge number of stimulating activities for anyone.
