It is common of us to think of talking to a spirit as something that is weird or just not believable. For most of early human existence the thought of speaking to a spirit would be thought of as being very normal. The change in this belief in spirit to unbelief was most prominent during the age of enlightenment; this was a time of reason, science and questioning. The problem though was that as faith in science increased our spirituality decreased. Today to say that you could talk with a spirit you might be looked upon as maybe having some mental illness. This brings up a very good question, why do most Americans and Europeans call themselves Christians when most doubt the power of spirit.
Christianity is based on spirit but many who call themselves Christians have no real belief in spirit power. Spirit for most of us is seen as something out there. It is to spooky for us so we are not comfortable talking about it. We do not want to seem unusual to people or unintelligent so talking to a spirit is not acceptable. We live in a society where intelligence is looked at highly and increasingly with the enlightenment age belief in spirit was seen as foolish. Actually those who believe on spirit were always seen as possibly not mentally stable. In the Bible when to Paul was to be put on trial spoke to Festus of Rome about the risen spirit of Christ, Festus was quoted as saying to Paul “Much studying has made you mad!” The thought of speaking to spirit was seen as crazy. Speaking of talking to a spirit can get you labeled crazy.
Those who do believe in the power of spirit and have actually had experiences with it have been kept quiet. The norms of society have silenced those who do believe on spirit. Religion has even contributed to this same quieting; many religious people now doubt many of the spiritual experiences that were recorded in the Bible. There is a stark contrast in religion and spirituality. Religion often falls in the hands of tradition; people who have no real belief in a risen spirit will still have a child baptized. In many ways religion has hurt the true representation of spirit. Religious belief can be totally independent on spirituality. Talking to a spirit may not hold for the traditionally religious. To find spirituality is what Jesus spoke of, it was spirit that he spoke of never of religion. His introduction and call to spirit was what the religious people of his day were offended by. The Bible describes the spirit as wind; it blows where it wants when it wants. It is independent of whether we believe on it or not.
The Spirit is not dependent on your belief of its existence or not. The voice of the spirit speaks to the hearts of the spiritually open. This revealing of spirit Jesus said is to the foolish not the wise (in their own eyes). The Spirit will not compete with your intelligence or ego. The Spirit of God does not speak for your proof, it is not a scientific study it is a revelation. For those who want to talk to Spirit it can be simple or difficult but remember the spirit searches the hearts for where it will go and those seeking proof may never find it.
