All over the world- there has been a firm belief in the supernatural throughout the ages. The debate and dichotomy of science and religion are blown out of proportions. Wherever we are, whatever we do- we do come across instances which look strange and have a mystery tied to them. We label them as "Supernatural" but never dive deep enough to investigate their source. Let me take a couple of examples to explain this- You wake up one saturday morning and realize since you don't have anything better to do in the rest of the day, you should sort out your papers in your file cabinet. You start the activity with all the passion and enthusiasm and while clearing things up, you come across a very old picture of yours with a very old friend of yours with whom you don't have any contacts since a long time. The accidental discovery of the picture triggers a string of memories and associated events. Two hours later when you are done with your file cabinet clean up project, you receive a call from the same friend who wants to invite you to her new business launch party. What a coincidence! I have seen many people reporting events like this happen regularly with them.

Let me take another example which happens regularly with me- I am a passionate music lover, most of the times whenever I am listening to a song while driving my though process pauses for a while on a lyrical note or on a artist who turns out be a personal favorite, some time later- I do observe that I witness news, comments, visual stimuli regarding the same thought from multiple sources. If out of the blue, I think about a particular song or music video, few minutes later- I am channelled to a radio station or a cafe where that song is on air. I am noticing this since the last 25 years. Its a quite consistent phenomenon.

Why does it all happen? Does it mean that I am a supernatural being? It throws up many intriguing questions, but since we do not have the resources to answer them, we call it coincidence.

In the past few years, I have been exposed to a lot of literature and research which throw some light on this extraordinary phenomenon of human mind. I would specially like to mention the names of Rhonda Byrne, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Wayne W Dyer, Swami Vivekananda and Louise L Hay as a reference. They have provided ample research to validate the fact that we are all connected together at the level of our thoughts. Our mind is not a lightweight and small neural block of nerves sitting in our head- its has much deeper connections with the universal mind, the power of intention which is running the entire cosmos. In other words- what we think is a command to the universal mind to return the same in the realm of manifestation ( what we call reality). Mythological incidents like Lord Krishna commanding the sun, in the battle of Mahabharata, or Jesus throwing his hands in the air and getting bread to feed the poor are not miracles. These avatars achieved a level of consciousness at which there was no gap of time and space between what they thought and its immediate manifestation.

Swami Vivekanada's lecture delivered at Los Angeles in 1900 provides some beautiful insights on the concept. He said:

"Have you ever noticed the phenomenon that is called thought-transference? A man here is thinking something, and that thought is manifested in somebody else, in some other place. With preparations — not by chance — a man wants to send a thought to another mind at a distance, and this other mind knows that a thought is coming, and he receives it exactly as it is sent out. Distance makes no difference. The thought goes and reaches the other man, and he understands it. If your mind were an isolated something here, and my mind were an isolated something there, and there were no connection between the two, how would it be possible for my thought to reach you? In the ordinary cases, it is not my thought that is reaching you direct; but my thought has got to be dissolved into ethereal vibrations and those ethereal vibrations go into your brain, and they have to be resolved again into your own thoughts. Here is a dissolution of thought, and there is a resolution of thought. It is a roundabout process. But in telepathy, there is no such thing; it is direct.
This shows that there is a continuity of mind, as the Yogis call it. The mind is universal. Your mind, my mind, all these little minds, are fragments of that universal mind, little waves in the ocean; and on account of this continuity, we can convey our thoughts directly to one another."

This is a universal law- as true as all the physical laws like Newton's law of gravitation. It can be applied anywhere, anytime, by anyone ( I repeat- by anyone). What you think is a command to the universe to manifest it for you in the real world. Interestingly, the Universe (or the Universal mind) is a perfectly neutral body managing the helm of affairs for this world. There is nothing negative or positive in the universal language. It only says " yes" to whatever you are thinking about. Hence the sudden call from a friend or appearance of your favorite music on air. These are just very small examples of the impact of this extraordinary power of human mind, the bigger ones can look like miraculous healing efforts (example- Morris and Cathy Goodman; "The Secret").

In my life- I have seen one moving example with my mother who developed a serious intestinal disorder, the only cure for which was surgical procedures. She refused to go for surgery and eliminated even the last traces of that disorder just by sheer affirmative thinking. Louise L Hay quotes numerous examples like that in her book- " You can heal your life", she even provides a chart which details what kind of disease can develop from a particular thought.

Another interesting fact about this extraordinary power is that it fails to work if the genesis of your thought is your ego. The Universal mind doesn't respond to ego-oriented commands. The Universe doesn't care what you think about yourself, and therefore is not governed by it. Dr. Wayne W Dyer quotes numerous examples in "The Power of Intention" on the importance of being free of ego to make this power work.

If I have to use a perfect analogy for this scientific metaphysical phenomenon- I would say your mind (and its inherent thoughts) is like a relay center for a TV channel, the Universal mind being a satellite that receives the signals and your life the stage or the canvas where all those thoughts are transformed into manifestations.

So, the message is clear- Be aware of your thoughts and choose them carefully, so that whatever happens in your life is in perfect alignment with what you want. I would like to end this blog with a insightful comment from Winston Churchill, who said " You create your own universe as you go along."
