Although I live in the USA, I cannot believe that we are in the most advanced and elaborated country the human race has ever been able to develop. Particularly what is inculcated by certain American websites and/or articles in the topic of website top rankings.
In the XXI century, Search Engines are much more elaborated than most website owners could possibly fathom. These cyber creatures have been well developed, and so, they became truly intelligent. I simply cannot comprehend that a truly substantial number of articles in websites ~some of which are published at SelfGrowth~ intend to lead website owners to construe that there are something like 10 steps to website top rankings.
The writing material explains that achieving solid top rankings is just a matter of one, two, three... nine and ten... and bingo... a website is at the top of rankings. No, there is much more to gain top rankings for a website.
To gain solid and truly long lasting website top rankings involves real work. A professional service should charge several thousands of dollars to do it all. It has been my experience that a website owner stands better chances to succeed than a professional service, and he will keep his money in his pocket. All he needs is someone to take him by his hand and walk him through the process. Then, he adds the long-term passion and commitment only an owner can invest. Those are the two most crucial ingredients of the cocktail needed to achieve solid and long lasting website top rankings.
Passion to achieve, patience to do it gradually and systematically, and the long-term commitment needed could only be provided by the owner himself. Nobody can commercially offer any of that in proficient manner unless a website owner is willing to spend several thousands of dollars.
I use an example to explain this vitaly important condition that must be comprehended.
Just for a minute, imagine that I build a brand new home the way I want it. Then, I paint it inside and out. Finally, I decorate it and install the furniture and all appliances. After I am done, I call an Electrician and a Plumber and tell the guys that I want them to make the electrical installation and install all the needed pipes. Would you say that it is too late? Of course it is. The electrical and plumbing systems must be planned in advance. They must be installed as the house is being built. They cannot be "added" afterwards.
The exact same happens with a website. It is very common for an owner to build his web site to look the way he wants or likes. Then, he wants top rankings for his website. Wrong! After a website was built, the ONLY thing that can be done with web pages not built with Search Engines in mind is "to patch things up". In the XXI century, Search Engines are too intelligent to give top rankings to patched up web pages. Particularly so if Search Engines have the option to place at the top of rankings other web pages which were never patched up.
There is a very efficient way, however, to deal with websites which were not built with Search Engines in mind. The one and only way to confront the situation is to not waste time, efforts, and money optimizing existing web pages. The most efficient way is to first acquire valid knowledge, and then, to create additional web pages built from the ground up applying exactly what satisfies Search Engines. That is a website meant to get top rankings.
