A Well Packed Gift Basket Can be a Genuine Surprise

Last week was my eightieth birthday, one more big one, and I got caught out really well by my loved ones. Ever since my wife passed on a short while ago, I stick to myself quite a bit. Oh, I see my daughter and my grandchildren regularly enough; they’re often calling in to see if I need anything and also to ensure that I am Okay. My Daughter had previously organized that she would call and pick me up for a trip to her daughter and my grand-daughter’s place to view my newest great-grandson.

I kinda’ felt a bit like begging off the visit, I felt a bit worn out, but kept telling myself that I really should go, I couldn't know on how many more occasions I would see them all at my age. Becky, my daughter appeared right on time as always, gave me a quick peck of a kiss and said ‘Happy Birthday’ in my ear as we departed for that brief trip to her daughter’s home.

Even as we wandered in the door, forty or so people, largely relatives, called out ‘Happy Birthday'. They had got me . I'd been surprised and demonstrated it. But then, wasn’t that what they were looking for. I got lots of cards and gifts, could not keep tabs on all of them, not to mention which present has been from which of my numerous descendants, nevertheless I relished the experience greatly.

The one I do remember very well was Becky’s surprise. It was an incredible gift basket. Perth is the place I’ve stayed all of my life and this variety of yummy delicacies and wine was meant to symbolize the ‘Best of the West’. It surely did too. I do not drink a lot of alcohol these days and have little tolerance for it, yet that wine within the gift basket was indeed Perth’s very best; a Merlot/Cabernet Savignon fusion with a delightful, robust, spicey dryness. It definitely travelled down well. The jars of Ogilvie merchandise will help keep my salads tastily spiced up for a while and the olives were delightful too.

I carry on and curse the peanuts that I can never refrain from as they regularly cause the extraction and cleaning of my false teeth, but could I resist them? No, never. There was also a container of dark honey, dark chocolate and a rocky road bar, in fact most of my favourites were in that gift basket. Perth has lots of brand new and progressive businesses and that gift basket place was certainly no exception, caps off to them. They did a great job, thanks to them and also to all my loved ones, especially Becky, my favourite, for such a fantastic gift.
