Antioxidant Power
Recent findings from numerous research studies have shown conclusively that antioxidants are essential to health and well-being. Antioxidants are critical in lowering the incidence of cardiovascular disease and many cancers. Most of us are familiar with such antioxidants as Vitamins A, C, and E; minerals such as copper, selenium, zinc, manganese; and substances such as beta-carotene and lycopene.Antioxidants are beneficial because they scavenge or neutralize chemical compounds in the body called "free radicals" that can cause damage at the cellular level.
Many researchers believe the average human life span could be extended by 20 to 30 healthy, vibrant, active years if antioxidant supplements became a part of our daily regimen.
One hundred thirty four research studies were presented at the Second International Symposium on Antioxidants, in Berlin, Germany, in November 1994. The overwhelming conclusion? Antioxidants are essential in the role of maintaining human health, and because most diets do not provide us with adequate levels of antioxidants, supplementation is necessary.
Earlier studies by the U.S. government suggest that only 9% of all Americans get the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants they need from their diet. Is aging a nutritional deficiency?
Scientists recently found that people in northern Italy who ate seven or more servings of raw tomatoes every week had 60% less chance of developing colon, rectal, and stomach cancer than those who ate two servings or less. Antioxidants may help keep arteries clear of cholesterol, bolster resistance to cancer, neutralize toxins, reduce inflammation, and even prevent premature aging.
Research findings are clear: you can significantly improve your level of wellness by supplementing with antioxidants.
