Many have a difficult time giving themselves the permission to give to themselves. So many people purposely deprive themselves of self love and caring for their souls. This is not healthy for you and does not have to be the case.
So many feel that they are being selfish when putting themselves as a priority or doing something good for themselves. This is a learned behavior, generally a behavior we have inherited from our parents and our environment we were exposed to as a small child.
We may have been taught that it is "rude" or "selfish" to think of yourself. For example, your mother may have put herself on the back burner for your father, you, and your siblings. Your mother may not have had any ill intentions, but unknowingly taught you to choose not to put yourself as a priority.
When having a belief system this strong and being the only one you have ever known is a hard belief to repair. The good news is that it is possible to repair and to reverse. The process may be difficult and challenging, but the rewards will far exceed the difficulty of retraining your beliefs and habits.
The effects of neglecting your needs can be worse than you may be aware of. This can lead to a feeling of being lost in life, depression, lack of focus, the lack of passion and purpose, and even more importantly, this can affect your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health.
I recommend you challenge yourself to give yourself permission to nurture yourself. Your family members, being used to you pampering them and focusing on them first, may show some resistance. If this is the case, sit down with those around you and explain to them how this is going to benefit you.
You can begin doing this in a small dose at first. You need to practice. Give yourself an obtainable task and something that is simple that you enjoy then gradually increase it. You are allowed to take the time to nurture yourself. Give yourself the permission to build your spirit and build boundaries with others in order for you to allow for this journey to begin and move forward.
