Overindulgence, eating, drinking, getting stoned to avoid feelings we don’t like. Be in Truth.

“On the 6th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…” Doorways to Truth. During the holidays, emotions can be more intense. Many different feelings are triggered as we go through sadness, loneliness, guilt, fear, anger, despair, mixed in with joy, love and stress.

During parties and family gatherings, it is tempting to indulge in practices that numb the feelings like drinking, overeating and getting stoned.

A Course In Miracles teaches that “Every situation, properly perceived, becomes an opportunity to heal.” That means that every feeling, thought and circumstance in life is attempting to reveal to you an area that your soul is calling you to heal. I like to think of them as Doorways to Truth.

The feelings of pain that you try to avoid through eating and intoxicants are begging you to notice them so that you can find healing rather than stuff them away – again! The situations in life that are the most challenging are offering clues to your deepest core issues that are asking to be discovered and released.

Be in Truth. Before you put that next bite of food in your mouth or swallow that next drink, pause for a moment. Take a breath. Relax. Do a simple exercise to gain self awareness so you can make new choices rather than following old habits.
