This week, I have been reading a recently published book by Dr Christine Houghton called "Switched on -Harnessing the power of Nutrigenomics to optimise your health".
This Kindle book is an excellent introduction to the exciting field of Nutrigenomics. This easy-to read scientifically referenced book is ideal for anybody who;
* Is a lay person interested in the field of Nutrigenomics or personalised diets
* Is already a healthcare practitioner but has not included Nutrigenomics as part of their practice or
* Is currently an undergraduate student who needs a gentle introduction to the application of “food as medicine” as part of a modern preventative and holistic approach to health.
The book has great analogies and examples of genetic variations and foods with proven nutrigenomic benefit such as broccoli sprout powder and Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD) from cantaloupe melon.The author obviously understands the topic well and describes the process of genetic expression in a very humorous but simplified manner.
For anybody who is interested to take charge of their health by understanding their own genetic make-up first, instead of investing in unnecessary supplements, this book is a great starting point and a great read.
This book will be on my shelf to refer to constantly and has also given me the "language" to explain Nutrigenomics to people who are new to the field in an understandable manner (without sounding like a textbook).
I would highly recommend this book to clients, customers and peers who are wondering about this exciting area of Nutrigenomics and what Personalised nutrition will look like in the near future.
