Everyone wants to accomplish a few important goals in their life, but those with a well-defined bucket list can actually re-focus on what is important and leave the world a better place than they found it. Here are five activities that may inspire your own bucket list.

1. Adopt a Shelter Animal

Millions of shelter animals are adopted every year, but this hardly puts on a dent on the sheer amount of animals that are coming into these facilities annually. At some point every family is going to consider getting a pet, and this makes adopting a shelter animal one of the easiest bucket list items that can still make a huge difference in an animal's life.

2. Learn the Basics of a New Language

Anyone that was born with English as their primary language has probable been able to get along just fine without knowing a second or third language, but learning even the basics of a new language can open up whole new worlds. A new language will create new opportunities for travel, help you connect with family members, and even slow the aging of your brain cells.

3. Create an Invention or Business Idea

Outside of grinding away for years at a job or winning the lottery, the average individual’s best shot at creating some serious wealth is patenting an item or starting a business on the side. This does not mean that everyone needs to quit their job or take out a massive loan though. When a great idea begins to develop, simply jot it down, spend a few weekends researching it, and speak with family and friends about its feasibility.

4. Leave a Massive Tip

The size of an appropriate tip changes between area, time of year, and the services being rendered. When you become financially secure and are looking to give back, keep some extra cash on-hand to leave a life-changing tip. Even just tripling or quadrupling an average tip could pay for someone's much-needed gas or help them out with upcoming bills that month.

5. Make a Family Tree

Creating a family tree is now easier than ever and no one must become a full-time genealogist to help plug in some holes in their family's history. Instead of pouring over library records, almost all information for the family tree can be found online or through a number of affordable organizations that help with these projects.

Creating and accomplishing a bucket list is not just about experiencing a handful of new or interesting things. These lists are about learning about yourself and leaving a legacy for your family and loved ones that you can be proud of.
