You may notice your dog or cat becomes sickly these few days. And taking him to the vet, was diagnosed with worms. Worms can take away the life if your beloved pet while can easily be remedied if properly attended. But what are these worms anyway and how can it be treated?

Type of Worms

Basically there are four types of worms types of worms that infect your pet ( in particular dogs and cats). They are hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms, and whipworms.

Hookworms. The most common hookworm that infects dogs is A. caninum. A. canimum hookworm infestation in dogs can lead to severe anemia, especially in puppies. Signs of hookworm infection include weight loss, pale color, black or tarry looking stools, weakness, anemia and death. Hookworms can be acquired from the mother's milk, from penetration of the skin by hookworm larvae in the environment and from eating hookworm larvae.

Treatment and wormers for hookworms, are designed with its flushing feature. However, since this parasite hook up in the intestine of the animal, an aggressive treatment and prevention program is diagnosed by a veterinarian which usually has a period of two to five weeks to kill the hatched eggs and before they can hatch again and reproduce administering a second dose.

Roundworms. Roundworms (Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina) are found in the intestine of dogs and are a major hygienic concern because they are transmissible to people.

Proper hygiene and feces disposal is they key to prevent this infection. Medical ingredients in wormers such as Milbemycin Oxime anesthetizes the worms making them break free their grip on the intestinal wall and makes flushing easier.

Tapeworms. (Taenia pisiformis, Dipylidium canium, Enchinococcus granulosus, and Echinococcus multilocularis) .Tapeworms are flat like a ribbon, and made up of segments called proglottids. The proglottids contain the tapeworm eggs. As the tapeworm grows, the proglottids eventually break off and exit via the anus. The visual signs of tapeworm infection is appearance of sesame seed like beads at the anus of the animal.

Unlike other worms that can be treated effectively with oral flushing dewormers. Tapeworm has other medication. Praziquantel or Droncit wormer is an anthelmintic effective against flatworms. When administered, this dissolves the worm in the intestine.

Whipworm. (Trichuris vulpis, Trichuris campanula, ) . Whipworm is so called because of its shape at the posterior end. Infection symptoms may include diarrhea, anemia, and dehydration. Canines can be infected through whipworm eggs in soil or other substances that may contain dog feces.

Easy Remedy and treatment

Veterinary wormers usually combines the formula of pyrantel embonate, febantel and praziquantel in treatment of this canine worms. This can be available in pills, paste or in suspensions.
