It’s no exaggeration to say that the youth adore Chetan Bhagat as their icon that just an author. Within a very short span of time he has attained such a status as the biggest selling novelist in India. The most striking feature about his writings is he focuses mainly on youth related and national development based themes and issues. His writing style tends to be very simple and can be understood minimally by all. “One Night @the Call Center” is his second novel released in 2005 and became a huge success. It is a romantic comedy that revolves around six people namely – Shyam, Vroom, Esha, Priyanka, Radhika and Military Uncle – who work in a call center called ‘Connexion’ in Gurgaon. Western Appliances Strategic Group is the name of their bay and all these six people deal with customers of home appliances and their troubles all through their shift. The novel is all about the anxieties, fear, career, love, marriage, family conflicts, ambition and self respect of the six major characters that pass through a very troublesome night. While going through the novel, a reader may be getting bored initially and once if he finishes half of its reading, he will start appreciate the endeavour of Chetan who presented his top-notch views skillfully. When one is discouraged, disappointed, scared and totally confused what decision that he has to take at that particular phase in their respective lives. The car of the six people at the call center staggers down and into the site of a high rise construction project during their short journey. They sense that they are going to die and surprisingly they receive a phone call from God who motivates them to such an extent that they get ready to face any sort of problem or trouble in their upcoming days with required level of confidence and determination. God encourages them to listen to the little voice inside always so as to overcome all sorts of difficulties. God assures them that he will be always with them if they do that sincerely. Until this unexpected thing happens in their lives, all the six people of Connexion Call Center are constantly under pressure with different problems. They resolve to be bold and to start leading a new life from that very juncture. Shyam who is considered a loser by his boss Bakshi decided to start a new web designing firm in collaboration with Vroom. Priyanka wants to make her mother happy. Radhika takes a tough decision to give divorce to her husband who has cheated her. Esha wants to give up her modeling and Military Uncle wishes to be with his son and grandson again. Undoubtedly Chetan Bhagat’s One Night @ Call Center is an exceptional novel with which one can be motivated and encouraged. If we really apply what is suggested in 221 and 222 pages, success will be ours.
