Chetan Bhagat who has been applauded as one of the best-selling novelists in modern India. He isalso a former investment banker, a newspaper columnist, a motivational speaker and author of five black buster novels - Five Point Someone (2004), One Night @ the Call Center (2005), The 3 Mistakes of Life (2008), 2 States (2009) and Revolution 2020 (2011). The most remarkable thing about Chetan Bhagat’s writings is he focuses principally on the issues faced by contemporary India; in particular issues faced by the Indian youth. The reason why youth adore him as a first-rate writer is with his writings he tries to motivate and encourage them in order to realize their potentialities as well capabilities to achieve something very important in their lives.

Chetan Bhagat’s debut first novel isFive Point Someone.The story is all about three IIT graduates and their friendship and differences, study, enjoyment, career and ambition, parental pressure and peer pressure, love and sex. Some of the crucial aspects in the education field which are escalating due to the mechanical and cut-throat competitive style pushed the students into a great depression.

One Night @ the Call Center is Bhagat’s second novel which is shaped out of a discussion happened between a call girl and the writer in the train journey.A tale of six people working in a call centre called “Connexions” located in Gurgaon which explores the pain, sorrows, ambitions, love life, personal trauma and the happiness they share together. The novel shows how Indian youth is struggling financially in the global economic crisis and finally refined as top-notch professionals.

Bhagat’s third novel,The 3 Mistakes of My Lifeis shaped from a received e-mail from a student Govind who committed suicide out of depression and dissatisfaction resulted from three mistakes. By touching very nerve of the concept of entertainment, belief system and fulfillment of life through cricket, religion and love making respectively, the author vividly depicts the challenges of youth.

2 States: The Story of My Marriage is all about an IIMA couple’s struggle to marry over the cultural differences. Krish is north Indian Punjabi boy in love with Tamilian Brahmin girl Ananya. The author cardinally presents hegemonic qualities of Indian society in terms of race, caste, colour, creed, region, religion and nation.

Chetan Bhagat’sRevolution 2020 is a kind of alter call to the Indian youth on the burning issue called corruption.By justifying the title, the author has clearly focuses the rotten Indian education system and corruption that exists till date. Unless youth takes initiation and fought for revolution India will not become a corrupted-free country.
