Creating Conscious Conversations
We are inundated with depressing stories each day and it permeates our conscious thoughts. Just turn on the evening news to hear the latest negative messages. You may find yourself living in “not good enough” or “not ‘this-or-that’ enough.” When the conscious thoughts change to “I’m thankful for this-and-that” or “I am where I need to be today and will strive for even better tomorrow” it can be just the pivot to live your desired life. These choices in conscious conversations move our actions from powerless to empowered. The next time you are having self-limiting discussions with yourself, consider using the following tips:
1. Use Empowering Language. When you say “I can’t” replace it with, “I choose to.” Choosing places the responsibility back on you. Likewise, you can replace “can’t” with “how can I?” Often times, this self-limiting conversation surfaces when people say things such as, “I can’t afford it.” Instead, ask yourself, “what do I need to make happen to be able afford it” or “I choose to purchase this another day.” You have a choice on what language to use and the action you will or will not take.
2. Redirect yourself. Using empowering language isn’t always an easy task. There comes a time where you may need to redirect yourself. Consider choosing an Empowering Language Buddy where you remind each other when the self-limiting conversations begin. Change your focus from negative to positive: “I don’t want another bad customer” to “I have a multitude of clients coming from expected and unexpected sources.” The more you concentrate on what you “don’t want” the further you fall into negativity. Make a mental list of what you do want to happen and remind yourself to use empowering language each and every day.
3. Be Thankful. Often times, you may want to be some place other than where you are at the moment. For example, you may look at your current situation and identify everything that is wrong with where you are. Yet, it is staying in the moment and realizing that you are being prepared for something greater than today but you need to learn something before moving on. Be thankful for everything, every circumstance and every person that crosses your path today. In the movie, Facing the Giants, there was a story told by one of the characters. There were two farmers who both prayed for rain but only one farmer received the rain. Why? The farmer that received the rain prepared his crops each day to receive the rain. He believed and was thankful each day for what he had: the physical strength to sow the crops, the time to prepare, and the tools to plan for the rain.
Changing our conscious thoughts through using empowering language, redirecting your thoughts by practicing affirming language, and being thankful for all situations are the keys to creating positive conscious conversations.
