Each court has its unique offer of criminal information. One obvious basis of the courts differences are their different locations. For a particular environment a particular set of rules apply therefore an offense might be also called in a particular/unique way.

In the US there is a court to take care of the criminal records for each of the 3000 counties. These county courts have helped in bringing ease to the gathering of a local background information. And since all courts have a due time of 3 days to get the exact details of a crime, the information needed could also be accessible to the public within the week of the incident. Search is minimized to the county residents so the list will have a lesser chance of getting the researcher confused of who is who.

In the case of drug trafficking, illegal munitions, and unauthorized relocations the more efficient criminal records will be found at the federal courts. The information here includes even a witness profile. Not all information here however is distributed freely to the inquirer. Permits and proofs of right to the information must be provided. Employers are also restricted in tapping information not assigned under their care. National Crime Information Centre (NCIC), help out in the organizing and keeping of pertinent criminal data needed and acquired by federal courts in the USA.

The criminal records usually found in the Internet are from State courts. The arrangement on the sharing of information, whether involving payments or not, is still vague though. Some of the state court information is based from the county records. However, not all data, as in federal procedures, will be publicized, especially relating to defendants. A combination of the county and the state researches will be more effective to gain a wider perspective of a criminal record.
