Dry skin is irritating and may lead to various other issues such as flaking and blemishes. Within this article, I'm going to go over a handful of reasons which may be the cause of your dry skin.
If you have dry skin then I'm sure it is safe to assume you have used a moisturizer before. The issue here is that you might be using a moisturizer that isn't that good, also you could be using it incorrectly. You need to use an thick and creamy moisturizer that contains no alcohol or perfumes. You should use the moisturizer while your skin is still moist, right after cleansing or bathing. Use the moisturizer before your skin dries out completely but not while it is still completely soaked.
Cleaning your skin with soap causes it to dry up. Soap strips away the skins protective oils. You need to use a cleanser that does not contain alcohol or any added fragrances. Anything that leaves your skin feeling tight after use is not good. You should look for cleansers that are labeled as moisturizing. An oil based cleanser is also something to look out for. If you suffer from dry skin, you need to avoid using any rough and harsh scrubs on your skin.
Scorching showers or baths could also be the cause of your dry skin. Hot water may wash the natural oils out of your skin. You should reduce your time in showers and baths and use tepid to warm water as opposed to hot water.
Exfoliating too frequently can cause your skin to dry. If you have dry skin then you should only exfoliate every week or twice a week. Be sure not to use any facial scrubs with "organic exfoliants" in them. This is because that organic scrubs such as almond pieces are too sharp and actually damage the skin. Synthetic exfoliating beads are better for your skin than natural exfoliating pieces.
Dry air sucks moisture out of our skin. The air is even more dry during the winter time which is the reason why the skin can feel even more dry during this time of year. To deal with this problem, you should moisturize your skin more often. You may also use a humidifier to add some moisture into the air.
If you are dehydrated then your skin can suffer. You do not need to go crazy and drink unnecessary amounts of water. It doesn't reduce the dryness of the skin past a certain level. Just make sure that you are consuming enough fluids every single day.
An additional factor that can cause dry skin is not in our control. It is age. As we get older, the number of sebaceous glands that release oil in the pores and skin are reduced. The skins capability to keep hold of moisture is reduced too.
