Relooking at Remedial Measures in Astrology Part II
If you approach a healer , and say " I am having a headache . Please suggest a remedy. " The healer will want to have some more information about the headache before he specifies a course of action to remedy the situation . He
will possibly ask some of the following questions while subjecting you to a thorough physical examination .
"When did the headache start ? "
"Do you regularly have headaches ? "
"What did you do yesterday and today ? "
"What did you eat in the morning ? "
"Is it a throbbing headache , or pin point headache or headache that is near the surface ? "
" Do you have any other physical problem which might have triggered this headache ? "
" When did you have this kind of headache previously ? "
And so on and so forth . Depending on the answers , the physical examination , and results of other tests , the healer will be able to prescribe a suitable course of action and medicine .
What is the healer doing ? He is trying to ascertain whether the headache is a hereditary trait , or a habitual reaction to certain happenings , is a symptom of some other physical or mental problem ,or just a stray happening
. In each case the remedy will be different . Similar is the case in astrology.
For any problem faced by the client , these aspects of the problem have to be ascertained , the problem has to be seen in as much holistic fashion as possible and then a suitable remedy can be suggested which will match with
the background , and temperament of the client in question . In other words , the astrologer will try to ascertain the nature , nurture and trigger causes for the problem and based on this he will suggest remedial measures .
Nature cause is something that you carry with you always since your birth .For example some people have tendency towards catching a cold , some people tend to have no tolerance towards chilly and spice in food , some people
cannot withstand the smell of onions in food . Why is this so ? We do not know . It has been there since we knew. We can over a period of time reduce its intensity or somewhat get used to it but the uncomfortable feeling remains . This is nature cause . Something that comes naturally to you .
The nurture cause is the one that you have nurtured / practiced / imbibed through your life till now through regular usage . For example some people like chilly rich and spicy food , and get used to it though their bodies
are not quite comfortable with it . As a result over a period of time they develop problems like acidity , stomach ulcers and diseases of excretory organs . Some people have tendency towards storing fat in their body( Nature ) by eating fat rich food and not exercising , and doing only
sedentary work , they nurture this and as a result of this nurturance ,become plump if not obese . This is nurture cause . Something that you have nurtured through your behaviour over a period of time .
The trigger cause is the one that is most obvious and that is the one that is given most attention . Trigger cause is the one that brings all latent or developing causes to a head . Trigger cause is the one when an event occurs
. For example a person gets attack of hypertension and falls down on the street and has to be admitted to the hospital . The trigger is the fall.
In general trigger is where everybody focuses attention and a remedy is sought for the trigger . But this is the last place where remedy is to be applied . It is like trying to take away the proverbial last straw from the back of the camel that is already broken under overload . The trigger
is the last straw . Remedial measures for the trigger cause are only emergency measures and are akin to firefighting .
For nature causes too , the role of remedial measures is limited. These are natural tendencies and are to be accepted as they are . Nothing much can be done over here other than containing them . These will not go away , these
cannot be wished away . For example your body colour is decided , your height range is decided , your physical qualities are decided , your physical muscular strengths are decided . You can vary these in a limited range by practise , exercise , or better food , coaching , training but the range is limited genetically . These factors are to be ascertained to find out the range of operation of the client . However let me add at this juncture , that the range is not limiting factor and is quite flexible ,
much more flexible than can be sufficient for our practical purposes. The point is that these are to be noticed and taken advantage of wherever you can , where these are problems , rather than hanging on to these , one has to find ways around these . In simple words , if nature causes are advantageous , take help of them ,if these are hindrances , try to find ways around them.
The nurture causes are the ones where remedial measures can make quite a difference. We are born with certain set of qualities . Over a period of time we tend to increase those which give us beneficial results , and suppress those which give us problems . We tend to build up on our strengths and suppress our weaknesses . We tend to nurture what we consider as our strengths and we tend to suffocate what we consider as our weaknesses .
This predetermines our responses to various situations we will face . Over a course of time we tend to get entrenched in our positions . This we call as maturing of personality . But the same strengths can overnight change
into weaknesses if the surrounding circumstances or environment changes or there is bodily change like aging . Thus a class A personality is much more likely to develop hypertension at an early age than others.
An astrologer ( for that matter any diagnostician or healer ) with the tools at his disposal will try to identify the problem in a holistic manner , then find out the Nature , nurture and trigger causes . The general remedial measures suggested are Japa ( Chanting ) , Tapa ( Penance or Meditation ) , Daan ( Giving Away ) , Seva ( Service ,Continuous Practice and perseverance ) , Gyan ( Knowledge ) , Tyag ( Letting go ) .
In part III we will take up an actual case study to see how these Nature , Nurture and Trigger causes can be determined and used in practical situations .
