God’s Greatness: Within His Books and Everything Around You!

Most times, people — including myself — probably don’t seem to don’t give any thought about God and his greatness. We are too engrossed in our own activities, good or bad, to a point that we hardly think about God, the trees, birds and other wonderfully created beings and objects created by God. Creation gives a clue to the greatness of God beyond what we can only see. Nowadays — arguably more than at any other time in history — mankind unconsciously and unintentionally takes the back seat when considering the common things of life. This causes them to close their own minds from seeing the greatness of God which is exposed through the simplicity of observing his creatures and his creation. In reality, the follower(s) of any religion, or believers in God, can sense much of God’s greatness by reading the contents of their respective “holy books” or “words of God”. A lot of mysteries and miracles (backed up with historical evidence) can be read and deeply sensed from reading and meditating on the words in the holy books. Coupled with reading the words of God, another inspiring thing to do is to take a look is to take a look or behold the products of God’s amazing power: the tangible things you can see, hear and feel around you.

Over the ages, and up till this moment, the words in the “holy books” haveaalways acted as a direct signpost from God’s creation to his immensely great power. From the time he created the first man, many of his followers (who are on a different page from those who disbelieve) gained extraordinary insight about God’s mysterious powers of manifesting his own thoughts in physical forms. Saint Paul was quite audible and clear when he said: “since the creation of the world, the hidden characteristics of God have been clearly understood by the things he created around us”. Even stone-hearted disbelievers like Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar (just to name a few people who attempted to exalt themselves above God) were forced to accept God’s sovereignty when the chips went down on their haughtiness. At the end of the battle between little Pharaoh and God, Pharaoh lost every important thing he had because he went against God’s instructions by keeping the Israelites as slaves in captivity. When the sun set on the battle between tiny Nebuchadnezzar and almighty God, he (Nebuchadnezzar) was changed into another form and driven away from people to eat grass like an ox.

One of the most touching stories in the Christian Bible, is the one that narrates how God spoke to Job out of a whirlwind, and what he (God) specifically told him (Job). Rather than being sorry and apologetic to Job for the hardship he was going through, God talked to him about the beauty in creation as expressed through various types of animals he (God) created. This story shows God’s own decision to direct and inspire man towards looking at the creative side of life, instead of concentrating on hardship. It seemed like God was indirectly telling Job to view his (God’s) greatness in order to gain the power to wipe away his (Job’s) own tears. Well, at the end of the battle against adversity, all of Job’s tears were wiped away. In truth, the mystery, greatness and splendor of God’s creatures, along with creation, should actually draw us closer to God: they should make us adore him and talk to others about him. Nowadays, you find that that’s not so much the case because a major part of mankind is too fixed on their “own” thing(s); forgetting that God made them as a part of the beautiful, and much bigger creation.
