Last weekend I was driving in a part of the city I don't frequent very often.
After completing my errand I wanted to go to a store less than a mile away. So I made a spontaneous decision to turn onto a road that ran parallel to the freeway rather than hop back on the freeway for such a short drive.

I thought that this would be more efficient. As it turns out, it wasn't a shortcut at all.

I ended up almost where I started! I found myself back on the same street I had turned off of a few minutes before.

I was so perplexed. The road had seemed straight to me and didn't curve much. I had no idea I had been traveling in a circle.

In my state of confusion I took a wrong turn and ended up driving through countryside for a few minutes.

Finally I turned around and decided to not take any chances and took the freeway.
The lesson here is that it's possible to follow a path and not really know where you're going.

In fact, it's possible to follow a path that is going in entirely the wrong direction and you don't realize it until too late.

Sometimes the sure thing doesn't seem appealing -- we want a shortcut or something new and exciting.

This is why creating a life blueprint and focusing on setting goals is so difficult for many people.

Wrong turns aren't necessarily a bad thing, of course.

I admit I enjoyed seeing countryside I had never seen before and admired the architecture of a couple of the homes I drove past.

And in life, sometimes the best things have happened when I least expected it, thing I hadn't planned.

But in the end, you have to know where your true path lies.

Enjoy your journey but don't lose sight of your goals. Don't forget where the "freeway" in your life is so that you don't travel in circles.

I agree that traveling on a familiar path is usually a good idea, as it keeps you from getting lost. But this shouldn't discourage anyone from taking a different route and stepping outside of their comfort zone. The important thing is to plan properly and set your goals in place. - Michael Lee, http://www.expertpersuader.com

Personally, I get lost on the freeway.
