Do you know what kind of customers fit with you? And are you looking for new customers alone, do not you know exactly how to handle that? Because who can you approach exactly to offer your products or services? That begins when finding the right contact.

In this article, I'll explain to you how to find the right contact for each business so that you can successfully recruit new customers!

Who is busy with the buying process?
The bigger the organization, the more people are engaged in the purchasing process. Within smaller companies, these types of decisions are often taken by the owner or director. In large organizations you may need the head of a department and someone who is responsible for the budget.

You are then looking for the decision maker, also called the Decision Making Unit (DMU). It is important to find someone who works as high as possible in the organization. This gives the greatest chance that this person can actually make a decision about the purchase of a product or service. Otherwise, this person can direct you to the right person in the organization and is also aware of this person.

The player's title varies from organization to organization. Usually, you can make a good estimate based on the size of your business:

  • 0-10 employees: The owner almost always makes the decision unless there are co-founders such as, for example, a CTO or Technical Director, CMO or Marketing Director.
  • 10-500 employees: Specific roles as Business Development Manager, Sales Manager, Marketing Manager, etc.
  • More than 500 employees: Often there are region-specific roles such as Marketing Manager EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) or Sales Manager DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).

Find The Influencers
The decider is the most important person to find out. Only: Who influenced the decision-maker within the company? He or she usually takes the decision not only on the basis of input from team members. And if you can convince these influencers, they will help you with the buying process because they also want to get started with what you have to offer.

The beauty is that these people are much easier to find. These are the people who will get started with your product or service. They will not take the final decision but will influence the decision maker.

How do you find the decision maker and the influencers?
Below, I'll explain you in four steps how to find the decider and influencers:

Step 1: Start with the website
On the company website you will often find the responsible people at the team / about our pages, especially in Small or medium companies. Additionally, you can always find quotes from board members by news or press releases.

The contact page also contains the general phone number. And sometimes you can find a mobile number in a press release.

Step 2: Search Google
Another way to find the decision is to use Google by searching for the specific feature in combination with the company name.

Step 3: Use LinkedIn
If the company has a LinkedIn profile, you can also view the people associated with this company in LinkedIn. The only thing is: If you do not have a paid LinkedIn subscription, you can even hit limits.

Step 4: Still found nothing? Use 800-number.info
Via 800-number.info. you can easily find the management or drivers from any company. These Ultra Mobile Phone Numbers work best if you want to approach Small or medium enterprises.

Bonus Step: Use Yelp
If you use Yelp, you can see who the decision makers are through the public decision-makers information from the companies that visited your website. This way you can get started with the right contact!

How do you retrieve your contact's contact information?
Now that you've found the contact, we need the contact information. The general phone number has already been found on the company's contact page. And a search by phone number in combination with the contact can sometimes give a mobile number.

You can also contact via email instead of by phone. Make sure you always send a personal message to your contact person.

The email address can be retrieved via Google, for example, by searching your contact with "email." And another way to find out the email address is by finding the pattern based on which the email addresses within the company are built. You can do this by searching Google on: "@ website.com" email.

Warmer contact through a common LinkedIn connection
You now know who you can contact and how to reach this person. Through LinkedIn, you can see if you have someone in your network that you have in common with your contact. If so, you can ask for an introduction. In this way, you will not be "cold" with your contact in conversation.
