Queen, you are a leader. You are a bona fide leader with the extraordinary power to be legendary. Deep inside, you know that. One of the reasons why you’re reading this message now is because you know you were destined for greatness. You know there’s more to who you are and you’re searching for that. You’re searching for your throne… your seat of power… the place where you belong. You’re searching for your destiny. So, I want to share with you a secret of not only successful leaders but of powerful, legendary Queens.
I believe in studying the greats to become greater. About 10 years ago, I developed a fascination for studying Queens of antiquity. I discovered many great Queens in my research and there was one Queen in particular whose story really impressed me and made a huge impact on my life. Her name was Makeda, the legendary Queen of Sheba.
The ancient empire of Sheba is modern day Ethiopia and surrounding regions. One thing to note about Ethiopian Queens of this period (over 3,000 years ago) is that they were independent rulers. They had the power to ascend to the throne without marrying a King.
Queen Makeda was everything you would imagine a great and powerful Queen to be: a capable leader, virtuous, beautiful, prosperous, extremely wealthy, an astute business woman, smart and above all else, very wise. Queen Makeda had a strong ability to surround herself with extraordinary people who exuded excellence and greatness. Throughout her story you’ll see that she always created alliances with very powerful and great individuals for her own development and for the betterment of her Kingdom. There’s one alliance in particular that she’s well-known for. When you read historical accounts of Makeda, even biblical accounts (yes she’s talked about in the bible) it’s mainly about the alliance she made with King Solomon of Jerusalem. The biblical account can be found at 1 Kings 10:
[Start scripture] When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the LORD, she came to test Solomon with hard questions. Arriving at Jerusalem with a very great caravan—with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones—she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that she had on her mind. Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her. When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built, the food on his table, the seating of his officials, the attending servants in their robes, his cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he made at[a] the temple of the LORD, she was overwhelmed.
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom!
And she gave the king 120 talents[b] of gold [4 Million Dollars by today’s standards!!!!], large quantities of spices, and precious stones. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon. [End scripture]
This Queen was absolutely great in her own right. She gifted Solomon with large amounts of wealth. She was very wise, but she understood the power of greater wisdom. Even Jesus gives her credit when he says that “even the Queen of Sheba came from the ends of the earth when she heard of the wisdom of Solomon and look one greater than Solomon is here” (Luke 11:31).
From King Solomon, to her traders, merchants, advisors and everyone in her court she always sought out the best and surrounded herself with greatness. This strategy allowed her to reign for 50 years in peace and prosperity.
Queen, whether personal or professional, our relationships are a mirror image of where we currently are in our lives. Jim Rohn said “We are the average of the 5 people we are around the most.” So Queen, who’s in your court? Who are you aligning yourself with? Excellence attracts excellence. Greatness attracts greatness. It’s a Universal principle that “much gathers more”. Even though you have the power to be a great leader and you are extraordinary all by yourself, when you join forces with other great individuals and surround yourself with people of excellence, Queen, you become legendary.
