Don't worry if you are less than thrilled with the weight that you have gained during your pregnancy. You can lose those pounds without much hassle if you know what to do. You might not think that you have the time to work out because your baby needs you nearby most of the time. However, your baby probably sleeps a lot. If you get into the habit of doing your exercise whenever your baby takes a nap (if you don't need a nap yourself), you will see results in no time! Here are three things that you can do while your baby is sleeping that will keep you energetic and feeling your best.
Drawing In: This is a fantastic exercise for new moms because in addition to helping you shed pounds, it will make your back, your abs and your core stronger and, in addition to improving your posture, it helps your metabolism as well. Position yourself on all fours with your hands directly underneath your shoulders. Then, pull your abs in and make sure that your spine and neck are in a straight line. Take a breath in through your nose and then, as you breathe back out, pull your belly button up and in--all while keeping your spine as straight as you can. Do this twelve times to complete one set and do three sets in a single workout to really work your abs and core.
Pilates: Pilates may be slow, but you can burn 226 calories per hour.
That is a lot of calories for doing only a few stretching movements. You can usually find some videos on the internet or you can purchase a DVD or book that will give you some moves you can do while your baby is napping. Perhaps the best post natal exercise you can do if you want to lose weight is to lie on your back and bend your knees. Your hands should be behind your head and take a breath in. Then, breathe back out as you contract your abs and lift your head as well as your shoulders off of the floor. Then, straighten out your legs and lift them into a forty five degree angle from your body while you stretch out your arms and keep your palms down. Pump your arms while inhaling rhythmicly for five beats. Then breathe out for a count of five beats. If you can do 100 of these a day you'll get into shape faster than you think!
Lunges: lunges are exercises that will work all of your important leg muscles which makes them fantastic calorie burners. In addition to helping you lose weight quickly, these also build up your leg muscles and that means that you can burn calories even while you are at rest. To do a lunge properly, stand with your feet hip-width apart, put your hands on your hips and draw your abs in. Move your left foot forward until your leg bands at a 90 degree angle. Keeping your right leg straight behind you, bend your right knee until it almost touches the floor. Slowly stand back up and then do the same thing with your other leg. Do this five times on each side for a killer leg workout. You will shed your baby weight faster if you can maintain this workout for three or more days per week and watching your diet closely. The hard work and motivation you put into losing your baby weight will pay off when you see the results of the weight falling off.
Any of these methods can certainly be very beneficial for yourself during as well as right after the pregnancy period.
