The time has come to bid farewell to the year 2009 and welcome 2010. So many are reviewing their year's past and evaluating if they have set out what they had originally intended on one year ago.
So many feel that setting up a New Year's Resolution will be setting themselves up for failure and disappointment. This will only be the case if that mindset is already in place and will form into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Setting a New Year's Resolution is a time to review your present goals and to form future goals. This will be a great opportunity to revise your goals into ensuring your success.
First, it is imperative to ask yourself what is your definition of success? What are the goals you are wanting to achieve within this upcoming year? What improvements are required of you to achieve this goal? Many times it is the combination of improvements that you make that will ensure your success with the goal you have set out to accomplish.
It is crucial to explore your goals with your mind, body, and soul as priority. Allow yourself to really focus on your needs when setting goals. Do you know your life's purpose? If so, great. Focus on setting goals that are in unity with your purpose. If not, do your best to focus on what category your life purpose may fall under and go in that direction. Chances are, you may discover your purpose by setting goals in that general direction.
There are so many different goals you may choose from. It is highly recommended on choosing even just a small goal from each category which will increase your likelihood of noticing a significant improvement in yourself and in your life.
Goal Categories:
* Business and Career: Where do you want your business life to go? Who are those you can surround yourself with that you can learn the best from in achieving your business and career goals. Those who are most successful in your profession are ones you may want to focus on in order to set the appropriate goal.
* Economic and Financial: How much are you hoping to earn. It is a great idea to have a specific amount that you are hoping to earn in order to make your goal relevant in accordance to how much you want to make. This will help determine how much you will have to work and which speed you may have to maintain in order to manifest those results. You may want to hire a financial advisor to help you develop a detailed plan and may be able to give you insights into achieving your goals more successfully and at the rate you are wanting to maintain.
* Emotional: Focus on your emotional well being. This will be a key factor to obtaining the persistence and strength you will need for the bumps in the road that can occur. If your emotional needs are being met, then the chances are you will be able to stay focused regardless of the curve balls presented along the way.
* Family and Friends: Focusing on your relationships with family and friends will strengthen your support group and will also give you a higher chance of opportunities arising as other people will have their eye on your goal for you.
* Knowledge: Continue to feed your mind with information that will give you more insights into the direction that you are headed. There may be a missing link that you may not have otherwise found. If you waste your time with information that is not giving you strength, then you may find reaching your goals more challenging than necessary. Affirmations will give you insightful knowledge.
* Physical: A healthy physical body will help maintain a healthy emotional state as well. When the physical self is unhealthy, you will be more likely to lose your focus and you could easily get off track of your goals. To keep your focus, maintain a healthy and energized body. Eat well, maintain a healthy amount of recommended sleep, and ensure your body gets plenty of exercise.
* Spiritual: Establishing healthy spiritual goals may give you more strength within your belief system and will allow for you to be accepting of success. A strong and healthy spirituality will increase your ability to keep a positive attitude and believe in your capability to achieve these goals.
Once you have established these goals, write them down. This will make your goals more real. Pin them up where you can see these goals. Create a vision board where you pin up pictures of your goals and even put a detailed description of what your goal will be.
Is your goal realistic? Although it not a good idea to minimize your goals due to what others would think are realistic, but ask yourself if the goal you set out to achieve is going to be obtainable within the amount of time you have given yourself. If your goal is too large to achieve in a years time, then choose smaller goals that will help you achieve the larger goal.
Now that you have established your goals and have a clear picture of what you want to achieve this coming year, then it is time to create a plan of action. What are the tasks that will be required of you to be successful? Figure those out and break these tasks down into monthly, weekly, and daily tasks.
Put your plan into action. It is important to keep yourself accountable. You may want to keep a detailed day planner and checklist in order to keep yourself organized and to remind yourself of these day to day goals in pursuit of the end result.
Now that you have got your focus in check, it is now up to you to implement these tasks and it is up to you to stay accountable. Remember, New Year's Resolutions are not just for New Year's day. This is a chance for you to create your action plan and to make your dreams your reality. Make this year an incredible one.
