What’s your dream? Have you forgotten it? Many of us do. You start out in this life with hopes and dreams and ambitions. Often they are quickly dissipated by your fears – what will people think? Can I earn enough money at it? How could I possibly attain this goal? I’m not good enough. I don’t have the right education or enough money to attain my dream. You often talk yourself out of your goal before you’ve even begun.
When you have a dream and are committed to achieving it, your life takes on new meaning. There is a purpose in your life. By discovering and unfolding a dream, you feel excitement. What is it that makes you happy and brings you joy? It may be a small thing or big thing, you may love to garden or to manage a corporation or to love babies. Through what you love you draw in the energy of hope, peace and forgiveness. Gradually you learn to take small steps to create a life you love.
As a child you could probably fill your days with imagination, curiosity, wonder and joy. What do you daydream about now? What do you think about when you’re stopped at a traffic light or when you’re lying in bed on a Sunday morning not having to leap out at the first ring of the alarm? Do you imagine what it would be like to start your own business? Maybe your dream would be to spend your days gardening. Your dream doesn’t necessarily have to do with your work or career. It may become a way that you see yourself earning a living or it may simply be a hobby or an avocation.
Your dreams and hopes are part of your guidance system from God. I’ve often wished that the God I imagined as a child - you know, the one with the flowing white beard sitting on a huge throne - would come down out of the sky and say to me, “LYNN ROBINSON, THIS IS YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE!” Then he would hand me the script! Wouldn’t it be easy if it worked that way?? Yet I’ve come to believe that the system for receiving these “Divine Messages” is built into each of us. It’s called “Intuition” and we all have it. It’s the Universe’s e-mail!
The Power of Daydreams
For many of us, our lives have become increasingly overwhelming. We seem to plan every last minute, so we need to treasure those pockets of time when we’re stopped at a traffic light or before falling asleep at night – and use them to daydream. I’m a big believer in daydreams. My theory is they inform you of what you need in your life. To give you a very simple example: if you’re spending a lot of time imagining what it would be like to enjoy a week at the beach reading trashy novels it may be time for a vacation! Your guidance system informs you through this imagery. Your daydreams are usually pleasurable for a reason. They beckon you as if to say, “Try this.” This is your intuition in the form of daydreams showing you some possible solutions to a problem or concern.
What if you knew for certain that everything you’re presently worried about would work out okay? What if you knew that you had the inner wisdom to handle any life situation that came along? What if you knew that even if something difficult came your way, you’d still be okay? What if you knew that you had a constant source of abundance flowing to you at all times. What if you didn’t have to worry? What would you do?
Many of us are out of practice with listening to our inner guidance system. We’ve ignored the gentle “intuitive nudges” we’ve received from our Higher Self and feel out of touch with our dreams. We receive this guidance in so many different ways. There’s no ONE right way. You might get intuitive information through meditation, through a strong emotion, or through the voice of Spirit in your ear. You may simply “just know.”
Is there something you really desire in your life? Perhaps it’s a new job, a positive change in a relationship, or business you’d love to start. If you’re like most people, you often feel swamped and don’t know where to begin to create your dreams. You may feel overwhelmed with options or feel like you have none at all. Either way, which direction do you take?
We want to live our dreams, but we keep putting it off, waiting for our circumstances to change. And they may. . . perhaps Ed McMahon from Publisher’s Clearinghouse will drop by YOUR door and announce, “You have just won . . .!” One day, we may actually have the time, money, and life circumstances we've always wanted. We may even come to feel deserving of our dreams. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?
But whether our circumstances change or not is unimportant. We need to pay attention to those dreams. They inform us about our life purpose. Would it make sense for God to send us to Earth with the directions, “Stay focused on what makes you feel bad, negative, drained and enervated?!”
Fortunately we have been sent to Planet Earth with a magnificent inner guidance system. It’s really quite simple: “What makes you happy, fills you with joy or thrills you with excitement?” If you have those feelings about anything at all in your life, that’s part of your guidance system telling you what to do. What could you do today to honor your intuition?
