This is much harder than it sounds. We have so many thoughts running in our mind every day that to get them out of our head and just focus on our breathing, without any interruptions, requires lot of practice and hard work. But the benefits outweigh the hard work:
• Improves self awareness
• Improves concentration
• Eliminates stress
• Lowers blood pressure
• Improves blood flow
• Increases intake of oxygen
It cleanses your mind and body of all the toxins. A basic tip for all beginners is that it is difficult but do not get disheartened. Keep at it. Make sure you spare some time daily and sit peacefully in a room. Tell others not to disturb you. Close your eyes and relax your body. Listen to your heartbeat. Focus on your breathing. Take deep breaths – concentrate on inhaling and exhaling. Count from one to ten and do it number of times. Slowly your mind will start relaxing and all unwanted thoughts will go away. It is just you and your breathing. Slowly, you will begin to relax distress and calm down. You have been up and about the whole day, listening to your boss scream, running household chores, kids fighting etc. You need this peace of mind!
When you are ready to end, stand up slowly, stretch your body and release the last of toxins from your body. You will feel much more calm, peaceful, relaxed and happy. Meditate daily and be at it! Do not feel disappointed if you cannot do it properly in the first few weeks. It is normal. Keep on practicing this wonderful art and find the inner peace you have been craving for!
