Finding something, anything today is not as difficult as it once one. Simple open up your computer, browse to Google and search for the thing you are looking for.
However a lot of personal trainer businesses and bootcamp owners are not getting their share of traffic from these searches.
I need to find myself a new microphone for my camcorder, you know one of those clip on your lapel type that gives way better a sound recording than the built in microphone.
So I look on Google for "camcorder accessories portimao" (Portimao being the local large town)...
I also am looking for a 2nd hand car, and I want to buy from a local dealer rather than an individual.
Again I look on Google for "Used car dealer portimao"
I want to find a local archery club to help me organise a tournament next November and I want to get the contact details of the president of the club.
I search on Google for "Archery Club Lagos" (I know there is an archery club there, I just don't know the web address)
I want to find a location for a luxury dinner for a group of 15 people.
I search on Google for "Five Star Restaurant near Lagos"
For each of these examples I get various success of finding the stuff I want to find... But the big factor is I don't look at Page 2 of the results. If its not on Page 1 it doesn't exist! And according to Google this is what happens for 90% of searches on Google.
This is why I INVEST so much time and money on google rankings for the projects I get involved in.
If I am not on Page 1 I don't exist and I don't get paid!
"To Google" something has become common lexicon in our world, and business owners that are not taking this seriously are missing out. Whilst it was not the only strategy for getting new clients in to my personal training business, it did account for at least 70% of my new business.
Because you want to do this, for you your own business, it is important to understand just the basics of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Most fitness professionals are completely clueless when it comes to getting their sites ranked on Page 1 of google, which makes the game much EASIER for you to play with even a little bit of solid knowledge.
In the SEO game you just need to be "slightly" better than your competition to beat them, and in our community the competition sucks! Even just doing some work towards search engine optimisation will net you a stronger position on google's front page.
Here's what you can do today:
1. Make sure your site is optimised for what people are searching for. Make sure the title tag and description tag on your site are set up correctly
2. Submit your site to 5-10 website directories
3. Write 10 articles and submit them to SelfGrowth.com and EzineArticles which link back to your website or BLOG
4. Create 5 videos and submit them to YouTube with your link in the description.
These simple things can make the world of difference and make it more likely your site appears at the top of Google.
