As the number of surgical and non-surgical procedures taking place in the UK increases year on year, it’s inevitable that more cowboys will try to make a fast buck from people wanting to look their best. This is the message from cosmetic surgeon Peter Paterson, who has warned people of the dangers of having “backstreet Botox”.
Dr Paterson, who works in East Lancashire, spoke out after a number of high profile botches in recent times. These problems are often caused by untrained and unskilled ‘surgeons’, something that has generally occurred abroad. However, it’s now starting to grow over here, something that the expert has expressed his fears over.
The surgeon claimed that rogue Botox administrator are popping up in the area he works, East Lancashire. This, he told the Lancashire Telegraph, is putting patients in potential danger. “The problem is that anyone can set themselves up as a cosmetic practitioner. Training usually means an afternoon Botox or filler course and off you go.”
Although Dr Paterson has counselled people where procedures have gone wrong, he suggested that many more people are too embarrassed to come forward, and instead suffer in silence.
The expert’s words offer a serious message to anyone considering Botox: get the right person for the job. While a reputable clinic, one with numerous surgeries across the country, can offer a comprehensive service, you may not get this if you do things on the cheap. And, of course, this goes for all sorts of cosmetic surgery, too. The fact is that when it comes to surgery, you tend to get what you pay for. Go for the cheap, backstreet option – you’re not only risking wasting your money, but dicing with your health.
Pay the going rate for a treatment at a reputable surgery and you can be sure that the work that’s carried out is guaranteed. In many cases, it’s the before and after that makes the difference. Reputable surgeries offer comprehensive consultations before a syringe or scalpel have been taken out of the drawer and dusted off. They’ll also check everything’s OK once the procedure’s taken place and will be available to answer any questions or queries you may have during the recovery period.
As with many things in life, you get what you pay for with plastic surgery and non-surgical treatments – so see a reputable surgeon if you want to avoid problems further down the line.
