Evaluating your personal core values is an important part of any personal growth plan. It is a key factor in cultivating a positive attitude.
Part of any good personal development plan should include an evaluation of your personal values.
A principle, standard, or quality considered worthwhile or desirable.
What do you hold as important in your life?
I do not mean material things or even money.
If you could just forget all that stuff for a bit and try to focus on the things that you feel truly define you as a person. (Which will be your core beliefs or your own personal philosophy.)
Look at it this way; if you had to put down your "code" as to how you feel you should live your life, what would you come up with?
You may have read the article on setting goals for yourself.
But without first examining your core beliefs and values it may be hard to come up with goals that fit you as a person and what you want your life to be.
People who understand the true meaning of success have analyzed their personal core values. They are living their lives in line with their personal values and beliefs.
How to Write Core Values
Are there seven personal core values, or ten personal core values?
There are dozens to choose from. You may only come up with seven or ten for you when you are finished.
As you look over the following list of personal core values place a number value beside each one on a scale of zero to ten.
Zero means it is not even on your radar, ten means you hold it in very high regard.
Eliminate anything with a value below a 3. Then repeat that and get rid of values that scored between 3 and 6.
Whatever is left would constitute your personal core values.
You do have other values which hold some importance, but following this exercise as prescribed allows us to actually examine each value.
It should also help us to think of things we may not have thought of on our own.
Once you have your personal core value list, look it over and see if it makes sense.
Some words of advice just go with what you feel and try to do this somewhat quickly.
Do not over think between an 8 or a 9 for any particular core value.
And feel free to add your own if they are not on this list.
