Neck Pain is one of the common health conditions that can worsen if ignored over a period of time. There can be multiple reasons that may cause pain in the neck area, for example, neck strain, whiplash, degenerated disc disease, pinched nerve, or herniated disc. Sometimes, extraordinary or repeated stress can also cause neck pain, which is more common with the people who are physically active, such as athletes.

Symptoms of neck pain usually begin with dull aching, pain while moving your neck, and can also include numbness, tingling, swishing sounds, dizziness, tende
ess, severe pain, and even swelling of gland. Since the movement of neck is closely associated with the movement of your cervical spine, neck pain is also often referred to as cervical pain.
According to American Chiropractic Association, “The neck’s susceptibility to injury is due in part to biomechanics. Activities and events that affect cervical biomechanics include extended sitting, repetitive movement, accidents, falls and blows to the body or head, normal aging, and everyday wear and tear.”

Some of the causes of neck pain can be broadly classified as a result of the following:

AgingSeveral degenerative problems with the spine and disc take place as you grow older. Joint disorders, such as Osteoarthritis and degenerative disc are particularly quite common amongst the older people as a result of their ages. Also, spinal stenosis can result in the narrower passage for the nerves, which can cause neck pain and numbness, and sometimes reduce the sensory functions of your neck and spine.

Poor daily habits and lifestyleDue to the lethargic lifestyle and jobs that make you sit for long hours, many people tend to gain a poor sitting posture, obesity and weakness of abdominal muscles. This causes problems to spinal balance and hence, neck might attain an incorrect position for extended hours.

Injuries, sudden application of force, and accidentsDue to a sudden impulse or extra pressure on head, neck, or spine, your neck tends to compensate in the opposite direction to maintain balance. It is also called whiplash. However, this might cause injury to the tissues that surround your neck and head. As a result, you can experience severe pain and/or stiffness in your neck.

Whereas sometimes the neck pain can really become too painful to handle, it often remains like a dull ache in your neck. This may lead to an ignorance which might make the situation worse. This is why you should consider an appropriate method of treatment whenever you notice any similar symptoms.

Thankfully, chiropractic care has evolved as a definitive method of treatment to those suffering from neck pain. Several research studies have proven chiropractic care to be effective in the management and treatment of neck pain arising due to several reasons. For instance, a study involving 19,722 patients of neck pain and stiffness was conducted by Thiel and Bolton in 2008. This study was carried out in order to identify the satisfaction rate among the patients who received chiropractic care. The result of study was quite encouraging as 71.6% females and 67.9% males got an immediate improvement in their condition. As per another study by Haneline in 2006, the overall satisfaction was reported by a whopping 94% of the patients who underwent the study.

In addition to the above studies, there are ample evidence to prove the effectiveness of chiropractic care in the treatment and management of the patients suffering from neck pain and related disorders. The drugless method of chiropractic treatment has also been identified as a therapy with minimal side-effects.
