Many empaths and highly sensitive people believe that some of the individuals they deal with daily are psychic vampires or energy thieves.

I believe this is a myth and a misconception. Yes, I admit, I have felt this way myself on many occasions in the past, until I discovered some truths about the matter. Once the facts were revealed to me, it changed my outlook radically.

It is simply impossible for anyone to drain or ‘steal’ your energy. Believing this to be possible implies that there is a limited source of energy available, which we have to share and compete over. This reeks of lack consciousness and a scarcity mentality, the very things that cause so much conflict, rivalry, antagonism, struggle and suffering in the world.

There is an unlimited abundance of psychic energy and spiritual wellness available to all of us, if we only allow it to flow freely. We are all deserving of this. All we need to do to tap into this infinite source of well-being is to simply invite it into our consciousness, embrace it with open arms and savor its presence with gratitude and appreciation.

We all originate from this source, we all consist of this source completely, and we will continue to be a part of this source in all its fullness forever. It cannot be drained, stolen or taken away from you.

Now, the question is what does happen when we have those unpleasant encounters with others who leave us feeling drained and emotionally exhausted? I believe we did not sacrifice or lose energy in these instances, we simply allowed negative energy to flow into our consciousness, which disrupts the harmony and balance of our current energy vibration.

This disruption of our well-being is due to a temporary lack of focus, or instability in our own energy state. It is easy to find evidence of this in your daily life. I have had contradictory experiences with people who might be described as energy thieves. At times they leave you feeling low, sad, tired or even depressed, and the next time they have absolutely no effect on your state of well-being.

Each time you experience people as ‘draining’, you need to acknowledge that your energy vibration was already shaky to begin with. The so-called ‘energy vampire’ simply stomped into your tranquil little world and tipped the scale. Their presence is simply the tiny straw that breaks the camel’s back.

This often happens to me when I have been neglecting my daily routine of self-care, such as adequate sleep, meditation, healthy diet, daily affirmations, and taking some time to relax or enjoy leisure activities.

Furthermore, it may also be a good idea to take an honest look at some of the most recent vibrational signals you have been sending out, prior to your encounter with the ‘vampire’. Have you been entertaining thoughts and feelings of anger, sadness, revenge, frustration, rivalry or self-pity? These are all lower-level vibrations, and they are certain to open up a few cracks in your overall equilibrium. Have you ever considered that you may have invited that encounter with the energy thief into your life?

This disturbed state of energy vibration is called psychic over-sensitivity or psychic overload. You may be more susceptible to this because you are more open to spiritual or psychic energies.

If you don’t take care of yourself, you will certainly feel ‘drained’ constantly. Some symptoms of psychic over-sensitivity include feelings of exhaustion, anxiety, restlessness, sadness, depression, extreme sensitivity to the moods of others or a lack of mental focus.

Fortunately, this imbalance is easily corrected by immediately changing your thinking pattern and state of mind, and then by doing some grounding and breathing exercises, channeling negative energy back to its source, meditation, visualization and prayer.

Once you regain your balance, and you are once again tapped into that amazingly steady stream of wellness, the next step is to get your self-care habits back on track. Prevention has always been better than cure.

I used to be an energy sponge on legs, absorbing a lot of negativity around me. I had constant mood swings and could never understand why I felt compelled to avoid crowds and public places.

When I discovered the truth about my empathic nature, I had to find ways to shield myself and maintain my spiritual equilibrium. I sometimes jokingly refer to myself as the “boy in the bubble”, because I live in a protective bubble of psychic energy at all times.

Next time an ‘energy vampire’ crosses your path, thank them for being your guide towards greater spiritual awareness and personal well-being. Be grateful for the valuable life lessons you learn from them, and share your new found sense of freedom and mastery with them.

Not only will you feel good when you are perfectly in tune with the goodness of the universal energy source, but you will also teach and guide the ‘energy challenged’ by your example. That way we will ultimately have less negative souls around and share our wonderful planet with so many more happy, positive people.

Nobody can make you feel different unless you allow yourself to feel different. It is you, only you.

"No one can deny you or grant you anything. It all comes to you by virtue of your vibration. If you had one goal, and that was to feel good, you would never again need to hear another word from anyone. You would live successfully and happily and in a way of fulfilling your life’s purpose ever after" ~ Esther-Abraham Hicks
