Rhinoplasty - How to Prepare for the Surgery
Written by William Deborah
You should know how to prepare for rhinoplasty surgery to benefit from agreeable positive outcomes and a quick recovery. This article tells you how to do exactly that. Though relatively common in the US, preparation for this reconstructive or cosmetic nose surgery should start weeks before the actual procedure. Before finalizing your plan to go for the procedure, be sure that you have realistic expectations and are doing it for yourself, not to please a loved one.
Preparation for Rhinoplasty– Five Important Things to Do
Preparation for the procedure can broadly be divided into five essential things to do.
- Find a good plastic surgeon – You have to find the right plastic surgeon to perform the procedure for you to get the most attractive results from the procedure and minimize post-surgical risks. Go online, find some surgeons who practice close to you or ask your family physician to recommend some names, check out reviews and testimonials posted about them and schedule preliminary consultations. Take full advantage of the preliminary consultation to see how comfortable you are talking to them and whether they are open about the procedure, its risks and costs. Ask for before and after photos and see if they are both convincing and satisfactory. Verify the credentials of a particular plastic surgeon before choosing him.
- Tests – You may have to get a couple of blood tests and maybe even a chest x-ray done prior to the procedure.
- Alter Dietary and Medicine-Related Regimen – You should stock up soft foods and start consuming Vitamins E, C and iron. You should also not take aspirin, anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications. Your physician would be able to better guide you in this respect. So make sure you have informed him of all the medications you are currently consuming. Quit smoking for a minimum of 14 days before and 14 days after the rhinoplasty. Smoking delays healing and considerably impairs circulation. Better still, quit smoking for good. Avoid alcohol.
- Arrange Post-surgical care – You should arrange for someone to drive you to the plastic surgery center/hospital and back from it. Especially after surgery, you may not be in a position to drive. Try to arrange someone to look after you for the initial 48 hours after the surgery.
- Food, Hygiene and Sleep – You would be required not to eat or drink anything for a specified number of hours before surgery. Sleep well the night before the procedure. Ensure that you have not applied any cosmetic products on your face or hair. In fact, you should wash your face properly so as to get rid of any bacteria.
Less Worry
Now that you know how to prepare for rhinoplasty surgery, you would be less anxious as the big day approaches.
