Seroquel is used for treatment of Schizophrenia. It is an anti psychotic drug and changes chemical actions in the brain to treat mental disorder. It is used in adults and children above 13 years. Another use of Seroquel is for treatment of bipolar disorder or maniac depression in adults and children above 10 years. Doctors prescribe it along with other antidepressants to treat depression related disorders in only adults. Seroquel XR is only meant for patients above 18 years. Side Effects of Seroquel

Seroquel could cause many side effects. Like all other drugs, it causes some common side effects, which are not serious, but if they persist or become chronic could be serious. In such case it is advisable to call a doctor. It could also yield many severe side effects including allergic reactions and high blood sugar or diabetes. Use of this drug could cause depression or suicidal thoughts in some patients.
It could cause fever, chills or other flu like symptoms.
Its use could cause persistent stiffness in muscles.
Its use could lead to confusion in some patients.
Its use could also cause sweating and fast or uneven heartbeats.
Some patients may suffer from uncontrollable jerky muscle movements after using this drug.
It could produce numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body.
Its use could cause alteration in vision, speech or balance.
Its use could produce white patches or sores inside mouth or on lips as a side effect.
Its use could lead to increased thirst, frequent urination, less urination, excessive hunger, or weakness as a side effect of using this drug.
Some patients might have feeling of passing out after using this drug.
It could produce constant need to move, tremor, infections and difficulty in swallowing as a side effect.
It could cause fainting, seizure or severe dizziness as a side effect.
Its use could raise blood sugar level.
Patients may develop fast or irregular heartbeat as a side effect of using this drug.
Its use could also cause a rare medical condition tardive dyskinesia. Some times this condition is not curable. Immediately call your doctor if you develop unusual or uncontrolled movements.
In rare cases it could also cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS).
It could lead to breast enlargement or discharge due to rise in prolactin.
It could also cause low libido or loss of ability to have sex in some patients.
